Hey hey Paula!!!

Wow!!!!  Look at those stats!!!  You sneaky little rascal hopped off that cruise ship on to the beach without anyone even knowing it!!!!   CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I do know what you are talking about, regarding the cravings!!!  I went through some also at around the 100 - 120 day period!!!  I'm also sure that the holiday triggers are starting, too!!  They are for me!!!  Look back through your list of coping strategies and keep them really close!!!  We don't want any holiday "slipping" going on!!!

And last but not least...  come chat, get some support, and distract yourself for a bit if those cravings visit again!!  It's great to see you stop by and visit with us!!!

Paula,

It is so nice to see you, I had wondered what happened to you.  I think that what Mr. Q has said is it.  I also know that I started getting really bad anxiety issues around 100 days into my quit, with the same things, tightness in the chest, throat etc. That is when I got the anti anxiety meds from my doc.  I didn't want to risk my quit and I didn't want to feel like that.  Do whatever you need to do to stay quit.  So nice to hear from you again.

Paula, I agree that you need to keep yourself distracted when the urges come up!  Could it be holiday triggers that are causing this?  For many of us, this is the first Christmas we are not smoking.  I know in years past I would smoke while doing my Christmas cards, smoke while wrapping gifts, smoke while decorating the tree, etc.  I am actually getting my holiday chores done faster this year as I'm not taking smoke breaks!  Would a cup of hot tea help when your chest and/or throat feel tight?  Hold steady.  Look at your stats!  You're doing great!

At this point the nicotine is out of your system and your pushing forward.  You might be getting bored or maybe it's just that time in your quit to feel this way.  I've heard many people feel exhausted after fighting for so long.  I know I did in my last quit.  I agree with Josie reward the hell out of yourself right now.  In the long term this part of your quit is the time you need it most.

I have noticed that this time around I'm not feeling the same as my failed attempts.  I didn't get the tightness, or the agitation this time around and I think a lot of it had to do with understanding how smoking works.  I would be quit for 3 months and then watch their cigarette like I had a crush on it.  Eventually it was too much to take and I gave in.  This time I realized that the way I viewed smoking had a lot to do with why I failed.  I mean you can fight a battle forever and kick the hell out of yourself or you can learn the truth and it may be easier.  It was for me anyways and I know everyones different so I just throw it out there.

Lets say you told yourself that you couldn't eat chocolate anymore.  You may love chocolate and for the next 50 years everytime you see chocolate you look at it lustfully for lack of a better word.  Now lets say you work in a chocolate factory but don't have a desire to eat chocolate.  Who will have a harder time?  I always looked at smoking lustfully, again lack of a better word but it's an illusion.  The smoking is not what you lust for it's the illusion of what smoking is that you lust for.  In a few months your old receptors in your brain will be back in tact and you'll be as good as new.

Anyways a lot of info for such a simple question.  Just a different perspective.  Just remember after 114 days the worst is behind you and if you are really going to quit for good then this quit is only going to get better from here on out.  Any other way is going through hell week over and over again which is something I've done and also what I imagine hell is really like.  Take care Paula, you're doing great.

Keep pushing forward and keep distracted!

Do what it takes with relaxation and avoidance and treat yourself well!  You have come a long way and you deserve this, your body will thank you for it!

Hey,

Haven't been here for a while and I've been doing quite well! At the beginning I never thought I'd make it this far and it has been easier than I thought it would be. When I get a craving I just distract myself with something else and I normally forget about it but just the past 10 days or so I've been having really strong cravings and a tight feeling in my chest and throat. Its very annoying, and I'm even trying not to entertain the thought of cigarettes because I know I'll get obsessed if I think about them too much. Any advice?

Thanks

Paula
