I took the journey and tried to do the cutting back of smoking, I am using the patches but I also have a prescription of the pills if it becomes necessary. For those that read about my sister I don't think she wants me to smoke but I just think that she wants me to have smokes if that is what i want, of course she doesn't realize that most people trying to kick the habit in the first few days that is about all you think of. trying to deal with the withdrawal and the craving it's about every few minutes at this point I can't get anything till the 5th when i go shopping so i will have to make due for now I wrote down a list of reason why i want to quit and i keep it next to me also i am having alot of problems taking on the phone smoke free...any suggestions??

One suggestion, is if you have a room in your house that you never smoked in....take the phone in there, and stay in there for the duration of the call. My first few weeks, when I would get on the phone, I would go in my bedroom, because I never smoked in there (I always smoked outside and took the phone with me). I've gotten brave enough recently during some nice weather to talk on the phone outside.....and I did just fine. Take small baby steps to begin with. Your retraining yourself how to do everyday things without cigs. This will take some time, but take it from me....I promise it get's easier. I can get on the phone now and not even think about lighting up. Your doing great!

Hi bcky55! Most people find when they are on the phone that doodling helps them keep their hands busy, as well as engaging the right side of the brain, which is the creative part. Using the creative side of the brain also helps distract you from the idea of smoking and that's always a good thing!
Big congratulations on your 2 days! You're almost halfway through hell week! Read all you can here, and post a lot, both when you need help and when you can give some. You have chosen freedom; keep on kickin ash!

Hi Bcky55
This is stickin to it
May I ask how much were you able to cut back before you quit? How many days or weeks did you spend cutting back? Is the patch putting you at ease?

You are doing a good job! Tough it out. Change the time of day that you do your daily routines such as take your daily walk a different hour and travel a different route. Have breakfast first and then shower. Sit in a different chair while talking on the phone or sit outside and talk on the phone. The important thing is scramble your routines, make things different, it will keep your brain occupied with new thoughts rather than the daily habits that connect to smoking. All part of distraction coping tools. Keep it up!
bck,
You can do this! If the phone is a trigger than avoid it for awhile. If this can't be done then use a coping mechanism or be holding something. You can chew gum or candy, eat veggies or doodle with a pen and pad.
Let us help guide you,
Keep Strong,
Josie
