How I quit

13 years ago 0 618 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello Puto,

Welcome to the site.   I'm so glad you have been able to quit smoking, and Cold Turkey too.  I always admire people who do it without aids.  You have a strong attitude, and I hope you continue to succeed in your quit.

For newer quitters, I must just say that many people found it necessary to use lots of other methods to help them quit.  One of those is to change habits, and also to use physical exercise to help.  It really does not matter how it is done as long as it succeeds.  Just remember:       WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!

Hi Puto, I liked your very different approach to quitting, and I am delighted it worked for you. However, we have to recognise that for most smokers, like myself, some additional help is needed in the form of NRT's or something similar, but whatever approach we take, our ultimate goal is the same.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing with us.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Dear all,

I'd like to share what I found to be very useful (and quite simple actually) when fighting the habit. Hope that those of you who still smoke would find some extra inspiration in my post.

I was a smoker for almost ten years. The worst part of all, is that I don´t remember why I started smoking (do you remember why? Think about it). I tried many times to stop smoking. It was not an easy task to complete.

I quit smoking on my fourth attempt. As I said before, it was very difficult. I did not use any of the conventional methods such as cold turkey, nicotine gum, patch, etc, because they didn´t work for me.

I simply changed my smoking habit by going to the gym, reading books and playing sports. Playing sports is very important if you want to quit smoking. Why? because once you start playing a competitive sport such as soccer, basketball, football (or any other sport you like), you will realize that you have lost a great deal of your respiratory capacity.

You hardly can breath and you won´t be able to keep up with your friends. At the end, you will feel like an old man. This experience will affect you psychologically and you will realize that you have to quit smoking.

Why?

Because you want to be the alpha male again, you want your friends to recognize you as a great competitor. I suggest that you talk with your family, close friends and ask for their help. They will keep you motivated and they will give you the strength you need to quit smoking.

Also, you have to think about the people around you. Every single person hates the smell of the cigarette so why don´t you be nice to them?. Once you quit smoking for a couple of days, you will realize how Nasty the smoking habit is.
