Stressed, Can you let us in a little bit as to your situation? First of all, what day are you on? Are you on your first day of your quit? Also, what are you feeling right now? Are you feeling depressed, tired, lonely, having really tough cravings, spaced out, irritable or maybe a combination of these things and others? Can you give us a little more to go on? I'm trying to figure out what best to say to help you, but I need to know a little bit more about your situation. Click the "Show my Quit Meter" box to let us know where you're at in the quit. Either way, you're doing a great thing by posting rather than smoking. Keep it up! :) Crave the Quit! Stressed, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking! Know that you are not alone in feeling this way. Many have felt just as you do now and have gone on to have successful quits. Start working through our program, it is located in your glove compartment. Start taking a look at your daily routines. When do you smoke? Why? Where? What alternative will you be giving yourself instead of a cigarette and how will you reward yourself for staying smoke free? Keep us posted. I can only share with you my experiences with going back to smoking. It certianly is easier to pick up that smoke, but then you have to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what have I done. Someone posted here "When you are smoking all you are doing is thinking about quitting and when you are quit all you think about is smoking." Our choice. I am tired of quitting. I want to stay stopped. I am listening, hearing, to those that have gone before me and they say it will get better and I trust them. I finally have gotten to the point that a smoke will now change anything except ruin my quit. Whatever is going is on will happen regardless if I smoke or not. I hope you stay here. Just hang on and it will pass. Hiya Stressed. I totally sympathize with you. I know these first couple days are so hard. And everyones quit is different, so I'm not gonna sit here and say I know just how you feel. :) Please go through the workbook material on the left side of the screen. Read through posts here. POST often. Feel free to contact me via the IM tool anytime you want. Understand that it WILL GET BETTER. Seriously. It really will. Honest. Please hang in there. Take deep breaths. Chew gum, eat hard candy, whatever it takes. Bingo Rememer - it's better to be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire for a smoke than a smoker who constantly wants to quit. Stressed, I hope these encourage you or someone else reading this. At 20 minutes after quitting: blood pressure decreases pulse rate drops body temperature of hands and feet increases. At 8 hours: carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal oxygen level in blood increases to normal At 24 hours: chance of a heart attack decreases At 48 hours: nerve endings start regrowing ability to smell and taste improve Between 2 weeks and 3 months: circulation improves walking becomes easier lung function increases These don't even begin to cover the emotional benefits involved. You CAN do this! Stressed, In your intro in another thread you listed some of the reasons why you wanted to quit. Now is the time to focus on those reasons. The kicker is that the only way to get through these first few days is to get through these first few days! Plan some distractions - go for a walk, rent a movie, take a bath or go to bed if need be. Do a jigsaw puzzle or bake some cookies, call a friend or read up on the effects of smoking on other sites. Do a search on "lung cancer" or "empheysma" as a tough reminder if you have to. Try to see past today and imagine your life without the burden of smoking. Honestly, if you can take it a minute at a time you can get there.
