creating new memories

I think my greatest memory of being a non smoker happened during my 1st quit. I had always loved pineapple BUT it wasnt until I tasted fresh pineapple for the 1st time w/o smoking. OMG!! It was so awesome!! The tart and the sweetness was actually seperated! I never experienced that before. Even tho I fell off the boat, I will never forget that memory!! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Healthy3, the feeling of joy when smoking is only relief of withdrawal, everytime you need a cig, you're in withdrawal so when you smoke it feels good. This is what makes you think you like smoking. I hope this makes sense ....... :)

Wonderful self-talk there, Sally! That's the way to do it. Talking and reasoning with myself has pulled me thru many a crunch. Keep up the good work! Hi Healthy3 - Ahhh... the danger of romanticizing smoking... that I didn't do as smoking smells bad, it tastes bad, it makes us sick, and well, you know the rest... I wonder - did you really ((love)) smoking? Go deeper... Smoking is an addiction... Addiction is not love, right? Nic can bring in some interesting commercials to play in our heads, but they are not the truth... ~ Running across a meadow filled with soft and gentle, billowy bluebonnets, running to that cigarette... to light up and take that puff... just that one puff... Addiction, friend... it's an addiction. Congratulations on 2 Huge Days! Make sure to protect your Quit with everything in you right now! Here's something to remember that reinforces what Healer is saying about the misleading commercials: All the best~ 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 439 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,659 Amount Saved: $2195 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 16 Mins: 3 Seconds: 12

I found myself thinking today, of the times when I loved smoking. Sheesh, you can almost taste them. It's amazing just how these memories are so strong and so vivid. I could feel myself slipping into one of these memories; a feeling of euphoia threatening my almost 3 day quit. And then I remembered one of the posts written here. It spoke of creating new memories ..so that's what I did. I now imagined my self huffing and puffing up the hill..spending my later years hooked to an oxygen tank.. It is vital for me to erase all the "fond" memories..they are not real...ok...I feel better :) love, sally My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 57 Amount Saved: $8.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 59 Seconds: 44

Sally, You are so right about the need to replace those memories with new ones. Everything that you have ever done is as a smoker. You are now going to need to learn to go through each of those things as a non-smoker. So allow your mind to lead the way by picturing yourself in situations that you would normally crave a cig. Then see yourself getting through that situation without one and as much as possible be proud and pleased. It will help to make the real situation easier when the time comes.
