i've always known that anger has been my trigger to do self destructive things...today is no different. i know about HALT, but when i'm hungry... i'm angry cuz i'm hungry, when i'm lonely..i'm angry cuz i'm lonely, and when i'm tired...i'm just angry at everything and everybody.
right now, i'm just angry cuz i want to smoke, and it's not an option. and i truly know that it IS an option...if i choose to self-destruct. i guess i'm choosing not to, because i'm here rambling. but venting works...so a bit more of my "vent" to remind me~~
i have copd and am disabled...i need 5 surgeries to become "able-bodied", but no surgeon will touch me with the shape my lungs are in. i will forget my reasons for wanting the quit...please help me to remember!
happy monday all!

This is not an easy road we go down.
Yet it is. Isn't it strange how that works?
I cannot tell you what specific thing will make it "easy" for you.
I can only share what has helped me.
You say you will forget your reasons for wanting to quit.
Look around. You mentioned you have COPD. How is that for a start?
Are you on O2? If not - think about it. It WILL be in your very, very near future. This is not a 'Could happen'. This is not a 'For some smokers...'. It is a certainty. If you have COPD and continue to smoke, you WILL be on oxygen.
If you are already on oxygen - look around. Does this remind you why you need to quit? Look at that concentrator over there. Look at those tanks stashed in the closet or under the bed. Does that remind you?
Those are the things that have helped me. I have been having health troubles. Potentially serious ones. That has kept me from forgetting why I have chosen to quit.
It has helped make it 'easier'. When I smoke, I look down at my swollen legs and feet and remember why I've chosen to quit.
You say no surgeon will touch you with the shape your lungs are in.
Print that out and stick it all over your home.
Print out the 'junkie thinking' thread and post that all over your home.
Read messages here a lot - Post messages here a lot.
Stay close and stay focused.
I'd rather be an ex-smoker with an occasional craving for a cigarette than a smoker with a constant desire to quit.
Remember that.

Heh!
I hope I didn't come across sounding mean. It wasn't my intention at all!!
I was simply relating the sorts of things that worked for me!
Take it all with a grain of salt - I'm just a newbie going through this as well.
Again - I didn't intend to sound mean and I hope I didn't!

jol,
This is good incentive to get in there and quit :) Take a look at the following link and see that this anger is normal when quiting.
