Extreme Driving anxiety and avoidance

Hi Dave, I totally understand your fear of driving. I haven't driven more than a couple of times in the past 12 years, so I really know where you are. My only advice is to take the drive slowly, maybe break it into small parts where you drive a bit and then have a predertermined place...gas station, restaurant parking lot, etc., where you can stop for a few minutes and calm down and then start up again. Is there any way that you can get to your brothers without having to take the highway? I, too, dislike the highway, so I try to find alternate routes (when someone else is driving me). I hope you can find the courage and peace to make the trip! Junebug05

Dave, Please try our program! The Program guides you through the process of getting back this control. It prepares you for this, one single step at a time, and gives you some homework to bring you along from session 1 to session 2, and onward, in a series of 12 sessions over a period of twelve weeks. You can begin to challenge these thoughts step by step. Please let us know if you need assistance, we are always here for you :) Josie ______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

Hello All. I haven't posted here in quite some time, although I'm here alot reading what others have to say. I find it helps me immensely to realize I'm not alone in this. I've had extreme anxiety/depression for years, and have been in the hospital a few times because of it. The one thing that's never left is my complete terror when driving. Especially on the highway. I find that lately I have developed a strong avoidance because of it. Christmas time is here, and the family wants to get together at my brothers place for dinner. I don't want to attend, because it means I'll have to drive the highway. I'm finding I hate myself for backing down. Anyone have any suggestions on how to face this? I'll try anything from self help, to medications you found really kept anxiety at bay. Thanks everyone.
