Hi new angel, how are you going? For the first half of last year I had lots of panic attacks in Uni classes. I found a few things that seemed to help me get through them. Actually after doing these things for awhile, my anxiety in classes seemed to go down quite alot! I guess breathing was probably one of the main things that I used. Whenever I started to feel a bit of anxiety coming on, I would breath in for 4 seconds then breath out for 5 seconds. I would count each second in my head and did this type of breathing about 10 - 20 times in a row. To be honest it really helped alot, I could even feel my body trying to calm itself down which was great. I used to take a drink bottle to classes which helped kinda break the panic cycle (when I drank water from it). Also having some food around really helped. Having some positive things to say to myself seemed to help me get through the days. I used to sit at home the night before a class and write down some nice calming things I could say to myself and say them over and over a few times. When I went into the class room, I tried to slow everything I did right down, and focus on anything but the anxiety. So if I was walking into the room I would try and focus entirely on what my feet were doing, if I was sitting down I would try and focus on what the teacher was saying or what colour peoples clothes were or just anything really. I guess you can actually be quite creative with the things you think about and it seems to draw your attention away from panic attacks and horrible terrifying thoughts! Anyway thats the main stuff I can remember, Good luck with it all! :)

I don't know if my other message was posted or not...i'm a little new at this. I have sense enough to add something to my name, as I did add something to my name yesterday when i saw there was another 'angel' on here. I understand the concern, etc.

HI angel! Hehe we have the same name. Welcome to the website. I hope that this site helps you alot! And i promise it will. I'm so sorry, i don't mean to sound rude, but do u mind changing your name or adding something to your name so that people do not get us mixed up. I would greatly appreciate it. Let us know that you changed it so we know its you! With respect to having attacks in class.....i can relate. Especially when its a new class (like the beginnng of a new semester). But I also learned to convince myself that its just anxiety. If you notice, when we tell the anxiety to just COME....JUST SAY 'BRING IT ON, I'M READY FOR YOU"....an attack will not happen. I just found that the more afraid i am, the more likely it is to control me. But just try to positive talk. Also, i always think that people are looking at me and it will be embarrassing. But in reality, every individual is not paying atttention to me and probably has their own problems to deal with as well! I hope i have helped a bit!!!!! :)

angel, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. It is great to hear that you are making an appointment to see a doctor. In the meantime please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When youre finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. I'm new to the site, and I'm wondering whether anyone has any personal experience with handling a panic attack during class lecture. I've been having attacks, lately, and I'm not sure how to deal with them in public places like a college environment. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
