I quit smoking (cigarettes) in November 2003. My first panic attack was December 2003. Coincidence? I think not! The weird thing is I had the easiest time quitting. Well, maybe at the time it wasn't but I think I did well, not gum or patch. Just a lot of candy! But I really think that giving up an addiction caused my anxiety. Or made it surface I guess. I should be happy I quit smoking but maybe if I never did, I would feel better. I am not even sure there is a connection though.

Thanks guys for your replys i hope you all are doing well.As a guy whos real nickname is outlaw i started weed when i was 16 everday until 19,than i pretty much did it here and there.I tryed ever other drug out there but herion i was injecting nothing in me.I was never a addict to nothing in my life but i drank like crazy from 19-23 or so pretty much everyday drunkin outlaw ya know.I seen a report and the findings on weed scared me reason being when i first started i felt normal.toward the end i felt kinda like i do now ya know, its like i felt more retarded though, slow, and panicky, paranoid, but it would wear off.Lsd i did like 15 times i gotta say i liked it,but when i grew up i was like wtf..I worry i altered my mind state, because everyday i wake ip this my life. There is no time peroid for it wear of..No triggers like a hit off a joint etc,it just comes...My life has become a hell in a way that i think we all know to well..Keep hooking me up with personal info i love it..hugs.. outlaw

I smoked alot in high school too. But I didn't developp the anxiety until age 20. My father in law has smoked pot his whole life and has severe depression and anxiety. But I do know plenty of people with anxiety that didn't smoked and people that smoked that don't have anxiety.

Dear Outlaw, Please do not think that smoking pot caused your panic condition, I know several people who smoked alot and our fine, my own Husband said he smoked quite a bit in high school and he is one of the most calm people I know, I have a girlfriend who also smokes and she is fine. I never really got into it, it made me queasy so I never smoked it much, when you have panic you tend to look to blame yourself, I know I do, its nothing you did or did not do, its a chemical inbalance, we produce too much adrealine and cortisol and it creates panic, I know I worry about if something else is wrong with me all the time, please remember its nothing you did wrong. I hope you are having a good night, I had a very rough day, but tonight seems better which I am grateful for. Debbie.

I seen online today that weed, has shown to help bring disorders, mental ones to young adults..i used to smoke alot when i was young but i quit before i got full blown panic disorder..i felt goofy on the stuff to be honest..its like im living a nightmare now,the side effects dont go away its scary, and terrible at the same time..i read it has shown up for depression, schizophrena, and other disorders... i think younger men get disorders are more at risk also, but i read panic disorder is common in woman in 20's and 30's..the research sucks in my mind, and the advancement in mental health is terrible..im wondering what others have to say abbout this i hope all i have is panic disorder, its scary maybe i smoked myself stupidly crazy?i should have known better when my parents had problems i just didnt think..well any thoughts on this i would like to know.. outlaw
