Hi Kim Do yourself a favor and get the book "Hope and Help For Your Nerves" by Claire Weekes. It is the best I have found to explain so you can understand what you are feeling and why. She is also great to give you coping skills and understanding about what is happening to you. That feeling of unreality is called depersonalization, derelaization DP/DR. Its happens when you are basically worn out from all the stress, anxiety and worry. Its common and wont hurt you it is just weird and no one likes to feel that way.

Hi, can anyone explain to me why you feel like everythings feels unreal whial you have anxiety and panic? I have been having mild vertigo following an inner ear infection in Dec 04 and when I feel swimmy headed and I have to drive (which is every day :( )I get this horrible anxiety that leads to panic attacks. When the anxiey begins I almost feel like this is a dream. It's so wierd! And scarry. I have a major stress going on in my life and this isn't helping. I think I'd feel better if I understood this strange feeling. It helped when I discovered that when I felt like I would pass out I was just hyperventilating. Sometimes just understanding these symtoms of panic and what is causing them helps relieve the fear in it all. kim Text
