Alone with PD

Ya... My grandma seems to think it's the kind of thing you can just "redirect your thoughts" from. I can't talk to her about it because that's all she says. She actually told me one time that the only person I have to blame is myself for having these problems. She always needs someone to blame. She once told me that her and my grandpa and mom and stepdad had a long discussion while I was out one night...and they came to the conclusion that I do this all for attention and to get my way. That I'm just selfish. I'm not old enough to really live alone yet...but she's tried to make me go and live with my mother. She can't deal with the fact that I can't just "not worry about it so much".

Darkhorse, I'm very sorry to hear that your family is not supportive. I kind of know what that's like, but not to the extent of your situation. My dad also suffers from panic attacks and my mom is not very supportive of him or me. I mean, she'll go with us to the doctor, but it's got to be more, you know? One time she told me to "suck it up". I was so stunned that she said that. Fortunately for me, I haven't lived at home for several years. It's tough, but it makes me doubly grateful for the support I do have, which, like you often comes from people at work. I don't think it matters where it comes from just as long as it comes from somewhere. I haven't been a part of this site for very long, but they people here are great and they definitely know what you're going through, and it seems like there's always someone to talk to at anytime of day. Take care!!!!

Hi there. I was just curious- how many of you have family/friends that are very supportive of your limitations due to PD? I did not.My family tried to deny them,(They are in the pshyciatric field too-ironic, huh?) and never did anything to help me accept and understand. They wanted to hide it and shove it under a mat. I managed the best I could, but was then kicked out of the house by my mother. I had a friend who let me rent from her, but that was horrid.I actually found people from my job who were more helpful/supportive of me than my own family! It saddened me greatly. Then, when I was not able to find a permanent residance and I kept having to move, my family still wouldn't let me move back home....I FINALLY have found a great place I can afford(it's tight, but I just don't eat well! Heheheh JK) and I am still irked on some occasions that my family doesn't seem to want to help me through this. It's made me stronger, but sometimes, when I see other families and how they would do anything for their kids....it annoys me some what. Not that I Want to live with them , but help and support would be nice. Anyone else have to deal with this?
