About posting your email address in posts

Hi, Amanda. Actually the reason I put it up is not in response to anyone at all, just a precautionary warning. I put it up on the SSC site too. As for acting as a go-between, it would be a lot administratively at the moment. In the future though, we may have something for you that you will like.

Hi Anne-Marie, It was probably me posting my e-mail address which prompted your comments. I totally agree with you, anyone who does post their address is opening themselves up to spam mail. This is especially true of an e-mail address in "hotmail" or "aol" etc where no protection exists. Mine is on company network and with so many firewalls & the like I have never yet received spam mail - (not that I post my address very often). But I do have a suggestion - where you have members who may like to converse with each other, would it not be possible to set up a "repository" of some description whereby either the addresses can be forwarded or alternatively the e-mails. Bit of an administrative pain I must confess, but it could very easily be streamlined. (Or doesn't the paniccentre encourage members e-mailing each other?). Regards Amanda

Hi everyone. For those of you new to computers and the Net, there exists what we call mailbots or spambots that do nothing but roam the Internet looking for email addresses to send you spam mail. Although the information you submit when you sign up is private and protected, what you type into a post is public and there for the asking. Therefore if you post your email address or real name, those mailbots will pick up that information.
