Trying to get into the spirit

11 years ago 0 424 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My tree has been up a long time this year....and i always have a day or two, that i allow myself to cry,and even talk to my family thats no longer here with us..but...to me,getting into the spirit of Christmas, all i have to do,is see my Grand childrens eyes of wonder,or go to the Mall, and watch all the babys being put onto Santas lap for pictures...that makes me smile, and feel warm inside,,,then onto counting my blessings...i have my family that are still with me,my children, and grand children,i have good health,my husband and i are still alive and well....I have so much to be gratful for in my life...no need to feel sad inside..with so much joy...it is ok to feel many things this time of year...but i choose to feel that joy!

HI:  Have been listening to Christmas carols lately and found a lot of music I hadn't played in ages.  I've decided to play Vivaldi again.  I had forgotten how much I loved that music.  Must go find Bach, Mendelssohn and more!  Yes, music does soothe the soul.  My son-in-law is a musician and that is his saying.

Hi Shari,
It took some time to find this out, and I'm constantly looking, so be patient with yourself.  Living in a large city might be the difference, but I doubt that small communuties don't have stuff going on, since volunteerism is a bigger part of small communties.

Today I confirmed that one of our largest grocery chains have cooking schools, with online registration, up to midnight if I like, and there is room in the class. I'm disappointed with myself, but the reality is that I just poke around into whatever's going on.

I admired your advocacy in your other thread, but I can't make that a priority, with caregiving requiring so much of my energy.  Following your passion(s) is a great start, and researching on the internet, newpapers, magazines will help the search.  The cooking cooking schools were all reviewed a few years ago in a paper, and I kept the links in my favourites.  I can see how committed some people are with their commitments into february, since the online registrations are already full for some courses.  Maybe a librarian can help you, since they manage information, and life is all about that.  Children are so adept, that they can, according to a lawyer and moral theologian, sit in her classroom as she's teaching, and seamlessly quote from their laptop computers any reference to a class' issues, to her amazement.

It's hard to know what your passions are, but I'm not sure I'd want to be in your way, if you began something.  Building on your interests will lead you, just as you moved politically for your daughter(from your other thread) and the meetup.

Starbucks has a lot of affluent customers, at their prices, so I noticed that other coffee places have poetry readings, discussion groups(philosphy or religious or political) to compete with Starbucks.  Now there are fancy machines to compete with Starbucks, so people's minds are constantly conceiving ways to meet our needs to connect and make a profit.

It's unlikely that your community is full of couples who work, and retire at home without any interaction after work, as I said earlier, since there have to be extra curricular activities outside of schools of children of the couples, and the couples have to be engaged politically, socially, economically, religiously, etc.  If you look at a local person's resume(they're all online now under the popular job networking site, where they list their cv) you'll see local people's involvement, and their desire to professionally network, even though yours is for fun/recreation/leisure for now.  I can't list the link due to this site's restrictions.

Good morning Hugs,

May I ask, how do you find so many things to participate in, in your community?  My community is a goose egg (zero), they don't seem to have anything going on.  I thought maybe your tips would help me to find, the needle in the haystack, socials I'm looking for.

Thanks, Shari

Hi Vincenza,
So far I have one on wednesday.  I think there may be another this week, but it just seems like people are kicking back into their social circles, understandably so

Hi Hugs,

Have you considered being part of the "one-off" events?  I can understand the need to have a sense of belonging, however another way to consider it is that you may have the opportunity to make connections with others at various community events at this time of year..
Perhaps it will provide you with a different sense of motivation?

For me, motivation is just from building a routine.  I'm miserable at being "spontaneous", like around this time, there just aren't things to participate in, over several weeks, so I can get some sense of belonging.  Everything is a "one-off", and I suppose I should toss a coin.

Also, I "have" to get things done, as a caregiver, since it's just part of the job.

Just another day in paradise!

No actually we have as much trouble getting motivated as anyone else does. I must say though that most things are easier. They are in a small community and of course there is always on line shopping. Sunny is getting good at that if frustrated at times. One thing I miss is other peoples lights, we have to drive to town to see them and there are less each year. We have lights although few people see them.

Hi hugs & MJ,

What helps motivate you to do things, despite having energy or even desire to do them?
How do you feel after accomplishing the tasks?

Members, what works for you?  What suggestions can you share?
