Hi

I'm all for the natural approach having been on medication for 20 + years it just made me tired all the time so I've gradually weaned myself off .  Despite the anxiety I find the depression the hardest as it is hard to motivate yourself when you feel very low.  When I can feel the lowness coming on, on goes the trainers and I get out for a walk even when it starts to lift I still try to get some form of exercise at least once a week it really helps,  I also avoid the news when my mood is low and any programmes on the television which are depressing unfortunately it doesn't leave alot of choice.  I have done the B's, St Johns Wart, HTP and alot more and basically I'm down to cod liver oil for my skin and joints, evening primrose and exercise.  I find it hard to do the exposure when I'm low so I keep on top of the depression because its the exposure thats needed to combat the anxiety.  Must try that lemon balm tea Davit, currently use camomile.

I am all for the natural approach. I too have heard good things about the Omegas. I find that some formulas for B vitamins are too high and actually cause agitation. Better to start off small and work up. Vitamin B12 stimulates long term memory. For me it brings back memories of a better time. As long as it doesn't stimulate triggers it could be a big help.

On the subject of herbals remember that some of them are no better than the conventional meds. (SSRIs and Benzos.) I would far prefer it if people used herbs a calm-ants than as synapse blockers. You don't want any thing to interfere with your treatment. A cup of mint tea will calm, where a cup of lemon balm tea is equivalent to .5 mg of ativan.

While you are on this, it is advisable to have your calcium and magnesium levels checked. Actually every one should have a complete physical to rule out any physical reasons for the way you feel.

AmJ,

This is a good question.  I have heard that the omega 3 fatty acid in fish oil plays an important role in the normal growth, development, and physiological functioning of the brain.  I have also heard that omega 3 may play a role in helping anxiety and depression. I would recommned discussing this with your doctor the next time you see him/her.  Members, what are your thoughts?

Hello,
I have been hearing positive things about Fish Oil Supplements helping to combat depression and anxiety. I was wondering if anyone else has taken to trying fish oil. I really would rather try more natural methods of overcoming anxiety as opposed to medication.
Thanks
