Hello DazedMommy,   Glad to see that you are able to take your medication without any panic and that you feel more comfortable now.  Hopefully it will get easier each day.     Faryal, Health Educator

Hey DM,

I am glad you are feeling better! I do that too lol, make sure to have someone around for the first hour! And yes, a day can make a world of difference!

Thanks guys.. Always making me feel better.  I'm ok now and have been taking it like a good girl :).  I just make sure I'm not alone when I take it and within an hour or so I'm great again.  Today was much better than yesterday.  Amazing what difference a day can make.

I've said it before, I am so glad I have this place to come to.

Take care

Hey DM,

Boy doI ever empathise with you! I am so sorry you are going through this atm. I have had that too. I get so anxious about taking the news meds! I get al hot and I keep thinking my throat is closing up and I get itchy...But then it passes and I keeep taking the meds and eventually it passes. I wish I had better advice for you but all I can offer is empathy and telling you I have felt like that also. What I do when it gets too bad and scary is either cal my pharmacist for information or my local healthline. They really help me sort through my thoughts and feelings and symptoms and everything. Anyway, hope this reply helps a bit.

Please let me know how you are doing!

Dazed,

Sorry to hear that you haven't been doing so great. Have you talked to your family physician or pharmacist about the side effects? Perhaps you should do so to try and put your mind at ease.

I have, and many others I have encountered with PA's. We read too much sometimes for our own good to be educated, but other times can hinder us. I too get mediphobic changing meds, or being prescribed one for an illness. I was given a beta blocker for my adrenaline surges, rapid heart rate, and that first dose made me feel the same as you. I was on the phone with the pharmacist, which he politely told me, it I was having any type of allergic reaction, it would have happened well within the first hour of taking it. I was itchy all over, thinking will my throat swell up next, etc. It was making me having a mini attack over the sheer fear of what effects it would have on me, took me about 4 days as each day, I would "anticipate" that first hour of taking the pill what "could" happen. Finally I could take the med without worrying about it.

Hi Everyone

Although things are good and I'm not actually having panic attacks my anxiety level is through the roof right now..  I have been sick for weeks - since the beginning of September.  They have finally figured it out (thankfully) and they have prescribed penicillin... I am freaking out.  I started taking it yesterday and all of a sudden I'm afraid of the side effects... I mean if it were going to be a serious one I'm sure it would have happened..but it's like I can imagine the symptoms.. I'm itchy... my throats itchy... it's crazy... I was fine all day but now alone at night my mind goes off on it's on path....and all of a sudden I'm afraid of it...

Has anyone else experienced this... It just seems so irrational... and it ticks me off that my mind goes off on these tangents..

Thanks for listening...
