Welcome LeslieLily,

I am so glad you found us. I know for a fact, that many members would be able to completely relate to your experience. The pattern of using alcohol as a reward is ingrained in a lot of us. This pattern takes preparation to break. Just thinking about changing is a step in the right direction and you are already preparing by posting and registering here, so, great work!

It sounds like you want to be preventative and change before the drinking becomes and even bigger issue. Abstinence is a great goal.  Have you thought about setting a quit date?

Hope to read more from you soon,

Hello! I am looking for a supportive community to help me abstain from alcohol. I drink more than I would like, and though I am not dependent and some days it is only one or two drinks, I still feel that overall I am drinking too much and I am interesting in abstaining completely. I often go a day or two without a drink and feel proud of myself and then reward myself by drinking and then feel guilty and upset at myself and the cycle has repeated since I was in college. I don’t drink enough to pass out or forget what happened, but sometimes I pick I a fight with my husband when drinking, and sometimes I am hungover in the morning which I totally hate. I haven’t talked to anyone about this problem other than my husband, and nobody in my life has noticed that it is a problem because I can hide it so well. But on the inside I feel ashamed and I know my drinking is problematic. My grandparents were both alcoholics and I am worried I am headed down a bad path. I really want to change before it becomes an addiction. Thank you or reading!!
