Welcome Chas,

I am glad you are looking for support. It sounds like alcohol is interfering with your life and you are wanting to quit. It is great to hear that you successfully quit before. What did you learned from your past quit that will help you now?
In addition to thinking about what works for you, take some time to read through the program. The more information you can arm yourself with the better prepared you will be to stay alcohol free.

It has been a few days since you posted last. How are you doing?

Welcome to the forums. I too tried all the methods out there to control my drinking but invariably it ended up with a worse binge. End of the drinking career, I had turned into another daily drinker, and blackout drink during weekends and holidays. The yets were still looming. Fortunately, like you I came to the realization that I had to change. Thats when my shrink recommended AA. The 12 steps and the fellowship has given me a new life. This will be my 12 years without any mind altering substance in my body. I encourage you to read the book Alcoholics Anonymous, though written back in 1939 it is still pertinent. I would suggest you read chapter More about alcoholism and There is a solution and Bill Story. It will give you a glimpse of the problem and what we need to do to recover.
