Short term and long term goals

Hi Athena,

How are things going for you? 28 days (now 38 I hope) is a great accomplishment. I really admire how you're sticking with your goal to keep moving forward. I can relate to what you said about stress. It can really pile up quickly.

Do you have a support structure in place to help you through those times. Checking in here is a great plan. Maybe check in more than once per week? Just a thought. Stay strong.

All the best,

Dave

I am still sober (28 days) but not doing so well on my other goals.

I saw my doctor, but I need to reconnect with my therapist and psychiatrist. I think I am doing well because I have some positive things to look forward to in the next few months, but I know myself well enough to know how quickly things can go off the rails when I am feeling angry or hopeless or insecure.

Great SMART goals Athena!

How will you be rewarding yourself for achieving them?

It's been two years since I attended a three week treatment program and I have yet to remain sober for more than 6 months at a time. I am getting better at not drinking when life is going fairly well, but when things get stressful - all bets are off. One day at a time works until I have a really bad day and then all my thoughts spiral into negative thinking and I don't care anymore if I am hurting myself - often I just feel I deserve it.

So I am hoping that if I set both short term and long term goals, I can figure out how to keep this going longer. I am at a point in my life where I know I can't drink at all. Just one drink very quickly turns into a bottle or more every day.

So here goes:
Long term goals:
1. Reconnect with at least one support group in the community.
2. Make some friends so that I have someone to turn to for support when life gets difficult (and hopefully to inject some pleasure into a life that has become all about work and getting things done)

Short term goals:
1. Keep taking antabuse daily until the fall (and don't drink)
2. Check in with this forum at least 3 times a week
3. Make appointments to see my doctor and my psychiatrist
