And if we do that, does it not dissolve the idea that alcohol consumption is more a means to relieve stress rather than some sort of allergy?
True for most of the people. But for some people, they cannot be contended with just a drink or two. Thats were the problem is. Those people keep drinking.
But, I have already posted many times, the problem of the alcoholic/problem drinker is not the allergy, its the false idea that builds up in his/her mind that this time its going to be different or some don't think at all, they just shoot to the bottle.
A very good post and I totally agree. So a question for you. Since these addictions are driven by previous trauma's, something I've mentioned in the past, do you think if we resolve these challenges, we find that the desire for drinking alcohol to relieve the stress may lessen, and we might find peace? And if we do that, does it not dissolve the idea that alcohol consumption is more a means to relieve stress rather than some sort of allergy?
Every addiction arises from an unconscious refusal to face and move through your own pain. Every addiction starts with pain and ends with pain. Whatever the substance you are addicted to - alcohol, food, legal or illegal drugs, or a person - you are using something or somebody to cover up your pain. That is why, after the initial euphoria has passed, there is so much unhappiness, so much pain in intimate relationships. They do not cause pain and unhappiness. They bring out the pain and unhappiness that is already in you. Every addiction does that. Every addiction reaches a point where it does not work for you anymore, and then you feel the pain more intensely than ever.
