Rather than making any radical resolutions I plan to cultivate some mental habits on a daily basis over the year ahead: being true to myself, being grateful for what I have, and enjoying the freedom that sobriety gives me.
I have a better success rate with achieving short term goals. However, I look forward to the moment when I can confidently state a long term goal knowing that with determination and the resources available to me I can do it.
But right now my resolution can only be viewed as a "daily" resolution as opposed to a New Years one:
Wine will not touch my lips today.
I began this journey at the beginning of this month ( Dec) and started out in a very positive frame of mind. I was pretty sure that I would overcome my drinking problem ( I am a binge drinker) within a short period of time . I have now come to realise that it's going to take longer than a few months and requires an enormous amount of personal strength on a daily basis to kick this habit. Training for a marathon is easier!
The My Diary and Toolbox sections have been very helpful. They keep me focused on my daily goal.
So as for New Years Resolutions? Not yet , maybe next year.
