Changing your relationship with alcohol

14 years ago 0 1022 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
These all strongly apply to me... but the people around me (family) don't see it and don't support my efforts to cut back.  They don't like it when I don't drink.  I know I use that as an excuse not to stop... but I just feel so torn.  The weird thing is that they are not heavy drinkers.  They can take it or leave it and never have more than two drinks at a time.  I think about it all the time.

Hi Junebug,

It can be heard to make a realization like that but it is so important to realize this also.  But can you describe hard means to you? What emotions are you feeling?  What exactly is hard about it?

Examine these thoughts and feelings and use them to motivate you to make change in your life.

You are at a really good place if you are able to recognize you want to change.  Changes are not easy to make but we will be here to support you through it every step of the way!

Members,

Do you have a problematic relationship with alcohol? Want to change it? In the coming weeks we will be giving you tips & tricks to do just that!

The following statements indicate an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
•    I find myself thinking about alcohol a lot.
•    When I’m in a situation where drinks are present but I have to wait to have them, it is very difficult for me to wait.
•    I get more pleasure from drinking than I do from almost anything else.
•    If I see or smell a drink I like, I get a powerful urge to have some.
•    When I’m around a drinks that I love, it’s hard to stop myself from having any.
•    I often think about I might drink later in the day.
•    It’s scary to think about the power that alcohol has over me.
•    When I taste a favorite drink, I feel intense pleasure.
•    I love the taste of certain drnks so much that I can’t avoid drinking them even if they’re bad for me.
•    I feel like alcohol controls me rather than the other way around.
•    Just before I drink an alcoholic beverage, I feel intense anticipation.
•    It seems like I have booze on my mind a lot.

Do any of these statements strongly apply to you? Moderately?
