Hi Pappy,
A BIG congratulations on making your next milestone of three weeks!!!  You are right, you ARE winning the battle against that terrible and addicting habit.  Every day you sound more and more confident that you are going to succeed in your journey to freedom.  I'm so happy you are doing this Pappy. Hi Sparrow! Well today is day 21 for me, WHOO HOO!. Like you said the hardest part is now behind us, it's more of a mental battle for me now. It's amazing that in such a short period of time I am no longer thinking " Oh how I wish I could have just one smoke today". Crazy as this sounds it's almost like I say to myself now, "Wow I forgot to think about not having a smoke." Each day I go without smoking gives me more resolve to stay smoke free. This addiction is so ugly and tries to deceive you in so many ways, you just have to be strong at every temptation and remind yourself how far you have come and that you will NOT let your guard down. Thanks for sharing, it's wonderful to have someone who understands exactly what this means to be a non smoker. KEEP UP THE FIGHT, we are winning!!!!

Thats so true. People who have never had a smoking addiction dont understand how challenging it is. If l had a dollar for every person whos ever said to me "well just quit" - haha. Like you lm also so thankful for this place. Stella and Tim are wonderful supporters and you and l are quit-buddys....literally facing the challenges at the same time. It always makes me happy to come on here and read that you're still going great guns. There are so many one-show people coming through here....and you never hear from them again. It reminds me how hard quitting actually is. The fantastic thing is that you and l have done the hardest part...its done and dusted...behind us forever. Now we just keep going until we have put this nico-monster to bed. Youre right it sure IS nice to go about your business without hanging out for a smoke which was unimaginable in just the recent past. You must be nearly in your third week. Do you still think about smoking? Do you have any cravings? I think about it several times a day but the thought passes quickly. My cravings are occassional and not usually intense.  Its great to share this journey with you.

Oooh, Pappy, I never even though of how exciting spring is going to be this year.  This will be my first spring as a non-smoker, too, and now I'm super pumped to see if I notice a change.

Hi Pappy,
"Something I have noticed just in the past few days is that my sense of smell is beginning to return. I am excited about that because where I live here in the States, spring is just around the corner" It is wonderful to be able and smell the different odors again isn't it? I like to mushroom hunt where I live, and I remember the aroma of the honeysuckle that was in bloom the first year I quit smoking. I can still get goosebumps thinking about it...seriously.  Less than two months and its mushroom season again!
You are doing great on your quit journey Pappy, keep it up!
Stay strong.

Thanks Sparrow, I really appreciate your support!! It is so helpful for me to have a place where I can go (SSC) to find the support of others facing the same challenges. I have the support I need from my family and friends but it is still hard for them to completely understand how this addiction can grab hold of you and not want to let go. Each day gets a little easier and as I am sure you are finding as well. Just the daily activities of life that 18 days ago I never imagined doing without having a cigarette hanging out of my mouth are now smoke free. Something I have noticed just in the past few days is that my sense of smell is beginning to return. I am excited about that because where I live here in the States, spring is just around the corner. I will actually be able to appreciate all the wonderful smells of that season that I have been missing for such a long time.

Hi Timbo! Actually it was easier than I imagined it was going to be. I should have already realized from my own experiences that using distractions, even small ones are a part of my success for quitting.  I know it's just my mind playing games with me telling me I need to have a smoke to relax, when in reality I know better than to let the nicotine devil have the last word. It had become such a HABIT to use my smoking as a crutch for every aspect of my life that now it's like learning how to walk again. I just need to remind myself that this is a two part addiction. The physical addiction and the mental addition as well that is just going to take time to beat. One minute, one hour, one day at a time!!!!!  Let's face the facts I had 30+ years to perfect this addiction, I am not going to change it all in one day.

Way to go Pappy! I find leaving the house is my biggest trigger and certainly long drives and visiting people. The last time l quit l went on a short trip and busted. This time lm avoiding long trips until lm strong enough. So you conquered this challenge,  now you dont have to fear it anymore. Well done Comrade!

Hi Pappy,
That's great to hear. Was the trip as rough as you were expecting, or was it easier than you thought it would be? I hope you had fun with the grandkids!
Stay strong.
