Hi WillowMama,
 Are you a quitter yet, I mean, have you given up the cigarettes completely yet?  I too tried to "cut back" before I took the plunge, and it didn't work for me. I was constantly looking at the clock to see when I could have another one. The days seemed so long. Some people can cut back before they quit so either way, I hope you will be quitting sooner than later if you have not already quit. Just take it one day at a time, one hour or one minute, whatever helps you get over the urge. Deep breathing helps control the urge too. There is a lot of good information in these forums from other ex-smokers, and maybe one or two of their tips is all you'll need to get through to next day,  then the next, then the next, and before you know it you will have a month of being a quitter like StellaBlue. It gets easier as time goes by but the triggers are always going to be there. You just have to learn how to cope with them and relearn how to deal with life as a non-smoker. If you slip, learn from your mistake so you can confront it head on the next time.

Yay for day 4.  I loved my quit attempts that began partway through a day.  It felt so empowering to me to make the decision despite already having smoked that day.  I look forward to hearing more as you progress, and I hope the insomnia subsides quickly.... I don't have any advice, as I've always been a pretty champion sleeper and quitting smoking didn't have any effect on that.  I see in the archives here that it is common though, so at least you know that a) you're not alone or unique in it, and b) it passes (duh).

I quit Saturday afternoon. It said whenever I finished that pack of cigarettes, I would quit. So I am on day 4. I keep thinking I can just have one drag of a coworkers cigarette then I would feel better. I know I won't. So here I am on this forum getting advice and suggestions from others! I couldn't sleep last night! How long does insomnia last?!?!?

Hi WillowMama!  Yay for deciding to quit :)  I wish there were more of us around here, but I have found reading the archives and just keeping up my own thread to be really motivating.  I did the "just smoke at night" thing, too.  It ultimately.... did not work, haha.  My system was "don't but any, don't smoke during the day, but you can smoke a couple at night with your partner." Which, to be fair, was moderately successful at times in terms of reducing my smoking.  But ultimately, it kept the door open for total relapse because I was maintaining such a strong connection to the smoking version of myself.  I would maintain it for maybe 2 weeks at a time, but it always ended up with a pack in my purse.  I find total abstinence to be the only solution for me.  I spent the past 1.5 YEARS effing around with this on/off smoking thing, smoking only at night, its-okay-as-long-as-i-didn't-buy-them, a shared cigarette "barely" counts, okay-only-5-smokes-per-day, etc etc etc etc.  The final result was ALWAYS me with a pack of smokes in my purse, sneaking around to smoke them and feeling demoralized.  Making the break final (one day at a time!) has been the only thing that has worked for me.  I mean, it's working so far. I'm only a month+ in to my quit, but it's an actual quit for a change, not a quit-dabble-relapse-dabble-quit-relapse shenanigan cycle.  Please keep posting here, I need some company in my quit!

Today is my 2nd attempt at quitting this month and I am already doing better (found this resource!), but really struggling this evening. Fighting against the urge to let myself smoke in the evening the next couple of days and then go fully off around mid-week. I just want to be done with these d*mn cigarettes.
