Wow Lolly; that is fantastic! 8 years Quit is amazing.  I came on board going on 2 years ago and am amazed at how time has flown by and how little I think of smoking these days - just those funny little triggers once in a while to remind me that I'm an addict and need to stay away from even one puff!  But it does get better - you're right about that! You have helped many, many people here at SSC throughout your quit Lolly. You've been a great inspiration with many of your words hitting home by saying just the right thing in your thoughtful responses - and it is always great to read your encouraging words and positive perspective on life.  Congratulations on 8 years and counting!  I hope you have fitting reward planned - you deserve it!  Cheers   From Eyja

A huge congratulations dear friend.  You have led the way and I was one of your followers up quit mountain.  Roxie and I  are so proud of you and the way you have beat down all of those demons  that tried to possess you.  You have helped so many people and continue to do so.  Again congratulations.

8 years ago,  if someone had said I would reach this point, I would have laughed.  It's such a long time, (8 years),  and, at that time, I was counting each day, and not really looking ahead.

I loved all the mantras everyone used...they helped a lot.  Then one day an old quit buddy used one..."Never Look Back! The Future is Ahead!"
This seemed to me such a positive idea related to quitting, that I asked him to allow me to adopt it.  How I see it is...we must keep looking ahead to all the positive things that come with quitting, and not mourn the 'old' days of what we used to do, particularly the habit ciggies we had.

Now that I never think of smoking, I still use this mantra in my life.  I suppose it is a version of "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."  That's how I see it anyway.  Ultimately, I now write, "Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!"  that gives you a successful quit in the long run.

Here I am 'sermonising' again...sorry!  I just feel so passionately about helping others to quit, and always hope that a small comment may help someone.-

Never Look Back! The Future is Ahead!

Love Lolly.
