I do hope that you are getting on well...Yes the triple As, sometimes its hard to remember, especially when all your mind wants is to smoke...I can honestly say that smoking doesn't even occur to me any more.  However I will never forget how difficult it is to wrestle with the addiction.  Some people seem to come to cessation rather easily, but for most of us it is an all out struggle.  I hope that you are proud of your progress and getting on well tonight.

Thanks for the A A A post. Very succinctly summed up post on "why quit". Thanks again O Wise One. I really needed the perspective today.

working on it:

I understand...For to many years I used cigarettes as a kind of anti-depressant. My ever present thin blue veil "protected" me against life's inevitable slings and arrows.  But by doing so I was in effect attacking myself because my rational mind knew that the practice of smoking was killing me.  I was in fact killing the vessel (body) in an effort to avoid experiencing the soul...

We are who we are and in that existence are many good and wonderful things.  I need to always remind myself of that...And in the reminding, I find a lovely stillness that always awakens a sense of gratitude for the miracle that is life itself...I wish to always be a child in that way...

Jim

So glad to be here again...I am glad that you found my little musing helpful to read...It was something that was helpful for me to write.  That is kind of the magic of this site.  The reading and the writing are symbiotic.  If either is missing the purpose of the site becomes void.  That would be very sad indeed, because so many people have been helped because this venue is here...

Dear Nonic,

I have missed your frequent presence here and I am always amazed that you seem to post something that I need to read just at the right time... uncanny!  I do need to take more time to appreciate, as we all should.  Thank  you for your words today.

I actually wasn't struggling with the idea of smoking when I posted that. Just had suffered a couple of blows to the ego and appreciated the positive perspective. I thought about how I might have sat and smoked all night as a response in the past, and how that would have only increased my blood pressure and tension level without changing the underlying emotion. And how emotions, even negative ones, are part of this "cosmic coincidence"/ "miracle" called life. And how I'm happy that my personal miracle will hopefully last a little longer as a result of my quitting.

Just keep doing what you are doing.  Cessation is a worthy goal.  Its can be a fight, but in time it will be a blessing...
