And on second though, willis....  I just described, on another thread, the intensity of detox and the feeling of relief that came when it was over. I'm glad to not be feeling that constant urge to re-fuel anymore. So I'm sure that bit of serenity will contribute to me responding to this more sanely than I would have in the past.

Thank you Working On It. Your response is clear and concise. It helps me to understand my own experiences more clearly.

willis,

I really can't tell if I'm calmer over this or not. It's more of a long-term event than a little transitory stressor, so only time will tell. Even though the relationship was short (about 6 months), it will take more than a few minutes to process it.

I did, however, notice a reduction in tension over transitory stressors when I first quit. Annoyances at work, delays in traffic, etc. weren't as intense, since I wasn't dealing with the actual anxiety PLUS dropping nicotine levels/ needing to "fix." I don't notice that difference as much anymore, since I'm getting pretty used to being nicotine free.

Hi Working On It,

You must feel so relieved to know you have surpassed the withdrawal symptoms that have made you feel crazy(!)  Continue making the daily pledge to yourself - it will help you stay strong and you are so close to reaching the top of the mountain!

Bill, great question and wonderful to hear you feel a sense of calm in various situations - one of the many benefits of being smoke-free!

Hi Working ! Congratulations on your escape from what sounded like a less than satisfying relationship !!! Yeah after 70+ days you can't blame nicotine for it anymore, that stuff is long gone from YOUR body.

Working, even though you're going through some real life drama do you feel like you are much calmer than when you were smoking?  I am always amazed at how much calmer I feel in almost every situation. I guess its just another on of those Random Reasons!

Anyway I saw your post and wanted to come by and lend whatever support I could. I wish you well Workingonit !

Your Friend,
Bill

Last night, I ended a frustrating and short relationship. Realized, after 70 + days of being nicotine free, that it wasn't nicotine withdrawal that was making me crazy. I wondered if the breakup would trigger a desire to smoke. So far, it hasn't. But, to be on the safe side, maybe I ought to take that pledge today: I will not smoke today.
