Hey Cowgirl...

I am so proud of you...getting thru another day...come on you can do it...

I am so glad to here you found Casey Lee...just give him a lot of tender loving care until you can get him to the vet.

But you are wrong about one thing....a cig will not help...not even for a second..it will not help Casey or you in any way, shape or form...

So you have your coping plans with you...just keep using them and spend this time hugging Casey...

Well........I have made it through another day...going through a rough patch at the moment.....really wanting to smoke....I am deep breathing and chewing on mints and squeezing play doh.    I had one of my precious dogs lost over night and found her this morning.  She is a blue healer and her name is Casey Lee......she had got herself under my deck, and was so far, I had all I could do to squeeze in to get her out.  Her eye is so swollen, it is stuck open.  I have tried to call the vet and the emergency animal hospital and no one is available to look at her.  Please keep her in your prayers....I am not sure what happened to her eye but it is very stressful...........and really making think I need a cigarette....but I keep reminding myself....smoking is not going to help my dog...and it may help me for a second but not enough feeling good .....to lose all I have gained in the past two days!!  So, I am struggling right now and trying to get through........

Thank you Free......!!  I appreciate all  your help........I realize you are not a practitioner.......but personal experience is all I am needing.  You have put my fears at ease and I took a nap this afternoon.  Still, smoke free....!!!  I  am less fearful of side effects now......more focused on getting through the process and being sucessful!!  Free........You have helped me more than you will know.......and thank you to all the other members that have contributed to help me through my first quit day!  I have the rest of the evening to finish as a new non smoker!!

Regardless of what you choose to help you quit (patch, gum, playing with playdoh, etc, etc) there will be some things you notice that you may consider a side effect.  Yes, I noticed right away that I smelled of nicotine/ashtray right away but that doesn't mean that everyone will or will not.  Since the chemistry is different in everyone's body's we will all experience different things as we go through this process.  As an example, I chewed a lot of gum and I noticed that I had an extremely tight jaw for at least 4 weeks but since I wanted to stay quit I just put up with this mild pain.  This time around I noticed that I was actually really stuffy in one nostril when I first quit but it eventually went away.  Its strange but b/c our bodies become so dependent on something, when we remove it our bodies change slightly and it is not always a desirable change in the beginning.  My nails were also very britle when I first quit which I thought they would be the opposite and get healthier and they did but it took a long while.  Hope this info helps.  Again, keep in mind that you will have changes in your body but only you know yourself well enough to know whether something seems bearable or really strange.  ALWAYS consult your doctor if something does not seem right but yes, there will be mild side effects for the first few weeks of your quit.  You may be spacy, tired, irritable, etc which are all side effects that you can get through.  Sorry for rambling...I just want you to know that some things are definitely normal but that I am in no way a medical practioner so I can only advise you so far and then you have to pick it up from there.  Hope the afternoon is going well for you.

I am new to the site but I quit in February 2010 my recommendation to you would be to floss or brush your teeth. It worked for me and they are great habits to start. chin up

I had a similar smell for the first few weeks....a strong smell of pure nicotine coming out of my pores.  It was pretty gross but certainly not as bad as reeking of smoke on my clothes.  I knew that I was the only one that could smell it and that was confirmed by my spouse.  I put on deodarant twice a day and made sure I wore perfume...that is all you can do about that.  Wearing the patch anywhere between your shoulder and elbow is fine.  I think you can put it anywhere on your upper body but I find it was easiest to remember on the arm.  Yes, it will be tough so make a list of the reasons as to why you want to quit!  Great idea with the playdoh!  I never thought of that.  Each day will get easier but for now.....take it one moment, one craving at a time!  when you get a craving...distract, distract, distract!  Have a nap if you need to....you can get through this.  Stay close and be strong.

Thank you for the info Free.....I have the patch on my right arm......kinda a little above the middle of my arm.........is that ok???   I am using Equate Brand that is equivelent to Nicoderm CQ 21 MGS as the Dr prescribed........

I keep smelling ashtray smells and my mouth keeps tasting like an ashtray tastes....NOT that I have ever tasted one.........is that normal???

Other than that, I am feeling waves of wanting to smoke.........Mentally........and am chewing gum....laying down and squeezing playdoh and staying close to my computer to keep talking to you .........Man this is tough....
