What?s a quit buddy?

Hi Alice in Wonderland,

Well, looks like you've made a quit buddy! Peteg, great of you to volunteer! It's so inspiring to see the connections and the support you are giving each other.

Milestone 5, has a section called "The Support of Friend". A family member or friend can help you in the quitting process and support you. You can find tips on what to discuss with this person or people.

Good morning!
I also  liked what everyone has said. A quit buddy can also be a quiter you have something in common with. Ron and I share the quit date of the 17th of the month in which we quit. We often identify with one another based simply on that. Whatever or whoever helps you maintain your quit I say stick with them!
We can do this!

Thanks for the responses.

Impalamania:  I like how you put it:  we are all buddies here at SSC.  I have used this site frequently over the past 18 days whether I am having a craving, needing advice or a laugh, bored, etc.

Peteg:  I would love to be quit buddies.  I could really use all the support I can get!  And, since we quit close in time (like Ron suggested) it would work well

Alice,
To me a quit buddy is someone who quits close in time to when you quit.  I had a quit buddy who quit on the 13th of June 08,4 days before me.  Every time we went through a milestone we celebrated together.  The hard thing was she started to smoke again in Dec. 08, 6 months into my quit so I lost her.  It's nice to have a quit buddy because it gives you motivation to keep going when you see others near your quit doing the same.  Even though my quit buddy started again I still kept my quit, and I'm happy about that. I always wonder what she is up to and if she will ever quit again... Anyway, Pete and others are good quit buddies for ya so work together to support each other. It makes the process easier IMO. Ron

Hey Alice -- You and I are quit buddies by default.  We deserve each other.
But beyond that, certain people on these boards develop particular relationships based on all kinds of nebulous criteria.  It used to be that people could privately IM one another on these boards, and that function is returning sometime, but is not active at the present time.  That makes the idea of "quit buddies" more public than it used to be.

But I for one would be very happy to be your quit buddy here or anywhere else.

Here's the way I see it, Alice.  We are all buddies here at the SSC because there is a common thread to which we all can associate.  It is this association that has made this quit so successful for me to date.  I need to hear from others and need to share my input with others as I continue to adapt to a life free of addiction.

Just as in real life, there are connections made with people in our lives...some are stronger than others;  some provide great insight...some provide comic relief...some inspire...some don't.

Need a bud?  Just post....someone will be around for your rant or rave....or tear or cheer.  You are doing great!

Keep the Quit,

Dave

I have been reading through old posts (so helpful) and have been stumbling across the words:  quit buddy.  From what I gather, a quit buddy is someone who helps a newbie through the rough patches and also shares in their achievements.  What is a quit buddy?  And, how do you find a quit buddy?  Or is everyone on SSC a quit buddy?
Thanks,

~Alice
