Hi Scruffy.............

Looks as though you are off to a good start.  It is good to see you asking questions and learning about this process.  You are right when you say this is a huge achievement.  A bit of a rollercoaster ride for a while but do your best, keep learning about what is happening.  The days go by and before you know it, you have a significant amount of time sans cigs.

Good Wishes your way.........Just call out if you need to, lots of good folks to help out here

Rock,

Thank you very much for your words of advice. I have a stomach bug at the moment and therefore I am not really thinking too much about my cravings for nicotine but I do want to focus on gradually replacing the things that I did when I was addicted to smoking with healthier habits like eating fruit, deep breathing and reading. Reading is a very good one for me because I read alot for work and I am in a book club. At the moment though, as I said, I am just feeling sorry for myself and really just want to go to bed. I like your idea of treating myself like royalty and I agree. For me staying off cigarrettes is one of the greatest achievements of my life and I should reap the rewards whenever I can. Thanks again.

Scruffy, welcome to the SSC and congratulations on 9 smoke free days!  Many of us here attribute our success to what we've learned here at this site.  Rewards are good!  You need to train your brain that you can be happy with things other than smoking.  Taking the time to smell the roses is good.  First, you can actually smell now!  Second, you now have time to appreciate the good things in life!  Drink lots of iced water.  It flushes toxins out of your body and it helps with cravings.  Read, read, and read some more.  There is so much knowledge and experience here.  Post as often as you need.  Somebody is always nearby to help.  Treat yourself like royalty!  This quit is all about you!  We're all rooting for your continued success!

Miss Marple,

Thank you for the support. Yes I feel good, confident that I can remain smoke free this time but I am wary. What helped you the most to quit and stay quit?

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the encouragement. I do want to quit more than anything and I am confident that I can succeed this time but I am wary because I have tried and failed about 7 times before. I am more aware now of the pitfalls and the times when I am more vulnerable than others. Hell week was pretty bad but not as bad as I expected it to be. My armour against the insidiousness of nicotine this time around is, more thought control, this website and my will to quit is as strong as ever, if not stronger. I want to quit more than I want to smoke. I agree - simple positive thinking.

Regards,

Scruffy.

Hot SiO2,

Thanks for the tip. As you can see I managed to update my profile but couldn't manage to download a photo. I will try again sometime. What does SiO2 stand for? I presume it is some chemical formula?. Silicon water?

Scruffy.

Carlos S,

Thank you for the encouragement. I am still smoke free at the end of day 8. The cravings definitely dimished today. I was at home minding the kids. Maybe that had something to do with it. Back to work in the office tomorrow for a break.

Regards,

Scruffy.
