Still staying smoke free.......

Jules, great posting!  What's interesting is your comment about a friend who don't want to go through the discomfort of quitting.  We all know that there could be some tough days during the beginning of a quit, but I would think that the discomfort from her battles with bouts of cancer would be much worse than those of quitting???  I'm not a fan of needles, or IVs, or tubes, or anything else that a medical professional could stick into my body.  Thats one of the reasons I quit smoking.  Seeing my oncologist weekly, giving myself shots in my stomach daily, taking coumadin, going for weekly blood work to check white blood counts, etc. in my humble opinion was MUCH worse than the first couple weeks of my quit.  You're right, I also don't want to be an ex smoker lecturer to my smoking friends, but I hope that the example I have set shows them that a successful quit can be in reach.  Maybe that's the route you take.  Show your friends your new love of life and your love of yourself.  Actions can speak louder than words!  We're all rooting for your continued success!

P.S.  Congratulations on surviving Hell Week!  Those 7 smoke free days look great on ya!

Thank you everybody for the words of encouragement, you have no idea how much they mean to me.....is it possible to fall in love with life? or fall inlove with yourself? I never realized how much I was harming myself, I mean I knew smoking was bad for me, but until you quit  you don't really understand exactly how much it is harming you, shortness of breath, not being able to do things with energy, etc,,,,you get the point,  then when you do something loving for yourself, and thats what quitting really is,, then  you can appreciate those things that you took for granted, llike quality of life, and breathing, smelling, tasting............I wish I could get my friends to quit smoking. It would make it easier for me, and improve their life too. But I always swore I wouldn't be a lecturer quitter,, I have to accept there are things I can't change, and thats one of them.  I would hate to lose my best friend to smoking, as she battles onslaughts of bouts with cancer, as an ex addict to drugs, she is like me, holding on to her last vice for dear life.....she dosn't want to go through the discomfort of quitting,,,,,and man I can't blame her for that,,,,,there are times its uncomfortable,,,,,,,when you tell a smoker they "should stop smoking" or " you can't smoke" thats the very first thing they will want....I know this from experence........I am so stubborn, I smoked for 32 years....since I was twelve,,,,,but now I am trying to use my stubborness to stay quit. I like the word SMOBER.....I wish it was a tangible gift I could hand to my friend along with the same stubborness,,,,,,,,,if my postings seem long, its usually because I am pheening for a cig, and writing is distracting me, but its also making me think positively.  I am grateful for this website.  Its a gift.

Jules,
Keep doing what you are doing and you will go far.  I will tell you that I could not get enough of Alen Carr when I quit.  His words leave no room for that nicodemon trying to get us to take just one puff.  I think you have learned a lot from when you first posted and I am happy to see where you are today. Keep on reading, watching TV, sewing, painting, crocheting, and knitting.  There are many other hobbies and things you will find along the way.  It's actually can be kind of fun to quit.  We are rooting for you! Ron

Just wanted to post for a miniute, keeping the quit going,,,,,,,,my quit meter is keeping me on track,,,,,but it s true!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't lie, I havn't smoked one ciggerette or even a puff. Not that the thoughts don't pop up, but I keep rereading Allen Carrs book, and listening to hypnosis, chewing Juju stx, not using any nicotine replacement therapy like the patch or gum, though I will say that with this quit, those things were very helpful in learning how to quit again in the beginning, but I took Allens words to heart, that there really is no replacement, and giving an addict the same drug as the addciton dosn't make much sense. So I stopped cold turkey 6 days ago, anyway, its a good day, Southern Cal is mourning Michael Jackson, but I am celebrating my quit,  life can be so good.

WOOHOO for you!  Congratulations on 50+ days smoke free!  You've boarded the cruise ship!  Pull up a lounge chair on the Ledo deck, order your favorite drink from a cabana boy, and celebrate your success!  I have to agree with the others, with your dedication to being a non-smoker, I want to raise your 99% to 100% that you will remain a non-smoker!  Tell the nicodemon that he is out of your life forever!!!  You want to be able to SING each and every day for the rest of your life!!!!!  Please be sure to reward yourself to celebrate!  Here's to the next 50 smoke free days, and beyond!
P.S.  have you asked Mr Ed to add you to his daily quit lists?  Its great seeing your name in lights when you reach a milestone!
