Help please.... I think I'm falling apart

15 years ago 0 1209 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hope your day is going well.. and another weekend for you smoke free coming up.

One thing that helped me is:    I visualized... I would see myself dressed nice, at a famiy gathering or.. all types of situaions.... no smokes.

the other... I thought of the crves as a Nicodemon... I had it in my mind as a gray stinkey monster, with red beady eyes, bad firey stale breath... and it was chasing me down... I beat the "stuff" out of it with a bigh baseball bat.., and a can of airfeshner..lol

I was also "lucky" enough to find re-posts of posts of people who were explaining how they lost their LONG quits.. so I try to remember to keep tht NOPE word handy, to try to remember the wise words here.

a Crave has never killed anyone..  the next sickarette you smoke MAY be the one to set off.... cancer, emphaysema, COPD... etc.

This is NOT easy.. and sure as heck am no saint,   I try to remind myself how much easier it is NOT smoking.

and my new purse smells so good... and no old tobacco crumbs or smell in it...... (BIG SMILE)

Bonnie...

try to turn the negatives into a positive... even when you feel like throwing something...LOL

Hi everyone....
Thanks to all for your  wonderful encouragement. Due to all of your supportive comments
I made it through the weekend and I'm still hanging in there! :)

Guess what!
I actually WAS falling apart!!!!!

Yesterday I went to my Dr.  and was prescribed some pharmaceuticals. I already feel better.

Smoking is an insidious master. For some of us the nicotine makes us tick. It let's us operate fairly normally.
Take it away and it's off the deep end we go.

Digging around in old posts over the weekend, I saw a lot of posts about depression and smoking. There are some really great posts, like "Walking on Eggshells" and many others that can sum it up more eloquently than I.
So it is definitely a theme with many quitters but so very hard to differentiate from just the general
"blues" that everyone seems to encounter for a few days in the beginning. Plus, everyone's quit is so different.
Hard to tell what is what.

Karren, I hope you have been feeling better lately too!
Sounds like a lot of parallels in our quit methods and timing of the stepping off.
Hang in there!  We are a couple of tough old broads who can beat this demon down!
Maybe Jim will loan us his sword or at least that flame thrower of his.

xoxo to everyone

Hey Henney,

Glad you're feeling a bit better. (Sorry so late with the response)...but, I too, have days when it feels harder than in the beginning. I think for you going to the Dr may be very helpful--especially because you have the other major issues that could be contributing to feeling so down.

For me, around day 100 or so it started with a bit stronger urges--mostly occuring with any emotional issues at work or at home. I know it would make it much worse if depression was also a factor. You've got an awesome quit going and you're doing terrific--so stay strong, keep that appointment and post & read!

You are doing great--hang tough,
Deb

Jim, thanks so much... I'll be reading them for sure.  Hugs to you.

Kiwi -  This may be the nail on the head.
I have two extremely major stress issues going on.  One started at about 50day mark the other at 75 ish day mark.
All about the business (I'm self employed and main provider) and I feel like I am watching a train wreck happening and frozen in place.  I have no idea how to handle it as the new me.  How I would have handled it as the old me is not known either.  This has been weeks of  business meetings. We are also in negotiations for a new business (this I have left mostly to someone else) as I really don't want the hassle. I've had to note down the most minute details just to remember or I walk away without knowing what the plan is.  How can cigarettes make such a cruel difference in thought process?? On the good side, I can sit through an entire meeting without running out for a smoke break.

I'm going to try to snap out of it. Maybe write down some ideas on how to handle these issues. You are so right... I used to be able to ponder problems during smoke times. Some to avoid, some to tackle. I have to learn a new tackle process. I have to DO something.  My "new me" is still an ostrich. I'm afraid of this ostrich.

Geez... thanks guys!

Jim, I know you mostly post during the week at work so you first...
Whew! I thought it was just me.  So relieved to hear that you had it too. That is probably a really good idea. Something I missed out on doing in the beginning. I was hanging back.  Many around the same time used to post (Smurf, Terry, Daily, etc) maybe it's all about the reinforcement.  Good thinkin'. Maybe I got stuck by not posting.
Rewards... another thing I should revive. Haven't done much on that like I should have.
Thanks pal.. maybe I should just go back to square one of the program.

Smokey and Belle - you have done so great! Thanks for the good advice. The job... you're right, maybe I just need a break.
Weird that you feel the same about your work.  It's a blow.  I hope this goes away for both of us.  I don't mind quitting smoking but I wasn't expecting to quit my job too.

Karren- wow... you have really done a great job. Funny, sounds like we may be in the same boat.
I will try your approach next week. Could well be the nicotine patches were delaying the big let-down that most
feel when quitting? How could that be, I was crying like baby all through week two.  How can this be happening again? I'd like to hear if you find any improvement.  It 's the weekend so maybe I'll just pop some B12  and M&Ms untill a Dr. returns my call.

I feel better just knowing you guys are out there.  Thanks soooo much.
Maybe time for a nap.
