I use to get so angry when this would happen to me, but you just need to get through it and not give in, it does get better and even now if i get one of those QUICK feeling that iam gonna smoke i think , where did that come from, just stay aware and stay free :) Tresa My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 2046 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 40,920 Amount Saved: $7,161.00 Life Gained: Days: 292 Hrs: 11 Mins: 32 Seconds: 31

Jacqui, You've received some great advice. Distractions are key, have your coping mechanisms in place for times when you feel the urge. Keep persevering! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Jacqui, you went to buy cigarettes and you bought chocolate and ice cream instead. It sounds like you are feeling a void in your life that you are trying to fill, and not very constructively either. Sparky talks about asking yourself the H.A.L.T questions when you are feeling that something is missing: Are you Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired? What else could you be doing to fill yourself up besides smoking or eating? Bear is right on when he asks have you not benefited from not smoking for so many days. Maybe it's time to do that journal...write down your reasons for staying quit, write down your feelings about missing something in your life, write down all the good things that have come to you since you quit. No good things? I'll tell you one that I know for sure: you smell a whole lot better than you did! Make it work for you, Jacqui! Jacqui You have 135 days smoke free a fine accomplishment already.I don't quite understand why you refer to it as this HORRIBLE track .Have you not benifited from not smoking ?? Has your sense of smell not improved, your sense of taste etc.As you travel the road to being free of this addiction you are going to face many triggers that will start you craving again. You're father smoking, leaving his smokes behind. These are all challenages you're going to face in order to be smoke free.As somebody said this challange is not for the week of heart. It will get better but don't you dare tell me your not up to the task. My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 361 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,498 Amount Saved: $3,610.00 Life Gained: Days: 87 Hrs: 19 Mins: 36 Seconds: 36

Jacqui, I've missed your posts. You are a big factor in my quit, and gave me a ton of support. It actually has been a lot easier staying quit, but checking in here every day. There are many times when I'm ready to cave in as well. For example: I play golf with smokers. They are not so considerate as to not smoke in the cart, and if I make a bad shot?. Well, I just remember that I am stronger than those damn cigarettes. I also remember to take my own advice, and post before I smoke. Even if I don't write anything, I check in on the SSC, and see how well my friends are doing. This is a really hard thing to defeat, but we've done it this long..... We have to be strong..for ourselves. Hang in there Jacqui! Great JOB on saying NO and taking them to your dad. That is impressive. My husband and I are impressed at my 33 days.. I am on chanix and it does help.. but coming to the site and reading posts and replies, seeing the mileage meter.. getting tips and hints.. has helped me to really commit to this quit. I know it is hard to turn a deaf ear when it is inside your head.. but stick your fingers in your ears and yell LA LA LA LA LA LA... whatever works.. you have come soooo far, please don't go back now.. I run around saying NOPE My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 561 Amount Saved: $112.20 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 20 Mins: 22 Seconds: 57

Jac, Lots of great advice, keep it close and refocus! Triggers can be challenging, but you have come this far and there is no need to go back :) Josie, Health Educator

Jacqui, maybe it's a good idea to come back to the site for a while. Write down exactly how you are feeling. Is it physical/mental/emotional? Does it seem to happen at a particular time? What methods have you tried to get rid of the cravings...distractions? changing your location? Perhaps even going back through the program workbook will help you. Good luck!
