quitting nrt

Gosh, no wonder you had a bad time. Poor you. So you effectively went from 21mg to nothing. First of all, I want you to give yourself some massive credit for what you have achieved. Even on the 21mg patch, you are getting a lot less nicotene than with smoking. That was a huge step. So now you are on the 14mg, and if you can manage on that, then I think you will find the next step much easier. I felt much more comfortable on 14mg than on 21mg, and it was OK going down to 7mg. By all means do everything to boost your confidence. Maybe book a hypnotherapist for just before when you plan the next step down - it can really help with the anxiety bit. It's difficult to know how much of what you feel is psychological and how much is nicotene withdrawal. I know many people say go cold turkey, but I just would have killed someone without my patches. ;) If it is working, keep going. not sure if chantix is appropraiate since i'm already 8 weeks quit. the cost is not a factor as all prescriptions are free to public health patients like me. i'll have a meet with my doc before i quit the patches again. maybe try hypnosis to get me over the quit. i do have a problem with getting addicted to nrt, in my previous quits i've always relapsed a few days after quitting nrt. if i fail this time i'll definitely use chantix, but i'm not planning on on failing this time. my doc would happily provide free nrt for me forever in preference to smoking. i'm just one of the minority that gets addicted to nrt. i'm on it now for the next month 2 weeks on 14mg and 2 on 7mg. elaine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: 417.20 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 8 Mins: 29 Seconds: 45

Elaine I bought a pkg of the patches, then decided to try the cinnamon Nicotine gum...it really seemed to work well and I only stayed on it less than 2 1/2 weeks. just a thought...and keep the quit, we all know you can do it!! Elaine,, have you tried the Champix..? Costs a few quid but seems to work and NOT in a nicotine replacement way... I hate saying this over and over because I don't want to sound like a shill for the company that makes the stuff... i'm on the 14mg. i was ill for a couple of days towards the end of the 21mg and i didn't use the patch so i just quit it and had horrible cravings everyday since -for 6 days. on wednesday i had a smoke in my hand but my friend didn't have a light, and in the moment it took to locate someone with a light i had the time to change my mind and give the cig back to my friend. that's how close it was. the nicotine dose is so low in the patch i'm wondering how much of this is psychological. i may go to a hypnotist for a boost when i come to quitting the patches again. elainr My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: 417.20 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 8 Mins: 8 Seconds: 9

Elaine, I have been around here long enough to know that everyone has to find their own way. You are absolutely not failing - look at those 56 days. You will get through this. Some of us do it quickly, other slowly.....but the important thing is to get there. Remember the hare and the tortoise. So what we need to do now is to develop a plan of how to cope with the problems you are experiencing. Can you tell me a bit more about it? nearly smoked but rang the smokers quitline instead, the counsellor persuaded me to go back on the patches for 4 more weeks. feel a right failure as i was 6 days nic free. also dreading doing it all over again when the month is up. better than smoking though elaine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: 417.20 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 8 Mins: 3 Seconds: 3

Elaine, Congratulations on your step down! Some quitters do experience a few days of adjustment. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Congrats, on being nekkid, Elaine. You know the only way to not go through it again is to stay quit now, right?
