Emphysema delivers reality check.....

Kristilu..Here is my personal pledge from my page on this website: My Public Pledge I know this is going to be considered a "wrong" answer, but I am quitting for my husband of 38 years. He has COPD and is very ill. Intellectually, I know I need to quit, but emotionally, my body still wanted to smoke. For me, doing this as an act of love for my husband has made it easier for me to accompish...different strokes for different folks. I am now over 3 weeks into the quit, and I do not regret it at all. You hang in there and know that you are doing the right thing. Peace and blessings be with you and know that you are not in this alone. jsut never ever give up..Remember, postive thoughts = postive actions My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 396 Amount Saved: $84.15 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 12 Seconds: 4

So sorry to hear about your dad but hopeful you're on the right track and can tough it out. Emotional situations are unbelievably hard to deal with early on without that cigarette, but they get easier. Non smokers (I mean those who NEVER smoked) can deal with their emotions and so can you. Wishing you serenity... x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 407 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,361 Amount Saved: 2,238.50 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 16 Mins: 41 Seconds: 7

I am sorry if I sounded a little harsh in my response. I am truly sorry to hear about your father. I just get so mad at those darn cigarettes. They have taken from me family members and dear friends all because they got caught up in the romance of smoking. Let's not let them win with us. We are quitters in every good sense of the word. (((HUGS))) Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 288 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,880 Amount Saved: $864.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 19 Mins: 40 Seconds: 39

Thanks for all the (((HUGS))). I really needed them. And yes, this will definitely help in my quit. I know now for sure, that I can't glide by and not be affected by the smoking. That it will surely catch up with me. So ---- I'M DONE!! How would I feel if I didn't, and I had to explain something like that to my children. Why they were losing their mom/grandmother of their kids? That would feel way worse than what I'm going thru (cravings/withdrawal) now! (((HUGS))) back atcha!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/11/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25 Amount Saved: $6.88 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 4 Seconds: 38

Sorry to hear about your dad, it is never easy. Glad to hear about the reality check that it has given you. unfortunately we sometimes don't learn until something really big happens. I am happy to hear that you are taking it very seriously and realizing what it may be like if you continue to smoke. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad at this difficult time. Remember you are strong and can beat this addiction. (((Kristilu))) That is some kick in the pants. I am sorry to hear that. Yes he can improve his health by quitting. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that he does choose to. Now, you have all the more reasons to stay quit.Your family now knows first hand what smoking will do to your health and surely they will not want that to happen to you. Stay strong! Sorry to hear about your dad. On of the good things about you quitting too is that you can help each other out. That is, should he decide to quit smoking. Its possible to quit smoking at any age. So what ever age, there is ALWAYS hope. In fact some say it is easier the older you are. Well done on keeping out of the cigarette store. I know it isn't easy. Keep focused and you can make it.
