Need advise on quitting cold turkey!!!

Wow Karen, I quit cold turkey and 2 packs a day. It's hard but it's well worth it. I didn't have the health issues, and my heart goes out to you. The first few days are tough, but boy is it worth it. I smoked for 35 years, but remember, if you take it slow, 15 minutes, 1/2 hour, one hour, one day, you can do it. Your life is at stake here. Before you smoke, post. There are so many wonderful people here that want to help. post often and let these people lead to the freedom of not lighting up. We're all with you, and welcome to the site. Members, Thanks for posting your great advice. Distraction and avoidance are strategies that can be used to help quit smoking. Distract yourself with activities that do not include smoking, like a warm bath, a brisk walk, house work, anything of that sort. If you could avoid situations that put you at risk for smoking. Hope this helps! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

I was a cold turkey, now I am a cool turkey cause I don't smoke! I "fake smoked", get a straw and puff away. Drink lots of water, eat mints when you crave, sleep. It is not the easiest thing to do, but if you want to quit smoking you can. Are you planning on smoking after surgery??? Pamper yourself and take good care of yourself. I quit 4 packs a day cold turkey - it can be done. Drink a LOT of ice water. Like Lotta life said - it's very very helpful.. deap breathing as well. Chew gum. Take hot baths, eat your favorite meal, suck on popcicles. Educate yourself abotu what your body is going through and why - this is very important in my opinion. Hi I need advise on coping on quitting cold turkey. Have been a smoker for along time, and I am having surgery and have been told I can not smoke for 7 days. Need help to get me through this. I am going to give up but wasn't expecting it to be this soon. I can not use any Nicatrol products inhalers or patches or gum. I can not have any help aid due to the surgery. So any advise out there???? Thanks :8o:
