What are the odds?!

Hi Den, welcome to SSC. The program here is the best! May I suggest you work through the workbook and utilize the other program tools. I also found deep breathing and ice cold water worked wonders on cravings. Some of the lit I've read says to tell everyone you know that you are quitting so you will feel accountable to them. I think for some that's a good idea. However, like Lainey, I didn't tell anyone and felt it worked best for me. Anyway, again welcome to the SSC and good luck! We will be looking forward to hearing more from you. (Yes, I speak for all of the members here when I say that :)) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 132 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,960 Amount Saved: $772.20 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 0 Mins: 3 Seconds: 24

Thats your own choice! I didn't tell anyone because I have quit many times I just didn't want my friends hagglin me all the time. But meantime, I was quit five days and my Hubby didn't even notice! I still have to laugh at that...really aware of things these guys are... You will do great Den, this is the best place to be. Be as positive as you can. Yeah the first three days are the worst, but the freedom and how really good you will feel when you're free of that nasty drug are all sooooo worth any effort! I smoked for 37 years, if I can quit anyone can! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 305 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,625 Amount Saved: $3,217.75 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 2 Mins: 43 Seconds: 55

Thanks sooo much for your reply!! Nice to know i am not alone here. What you said makes so much sense. A mental battle - i can understand that. NOW...can i win, can i fight it? i will give it my all. Should i tell people that i am going to quit ex.friends & family? I have told my boyfriend so far. Hi Den! It's only hard if you tell yourself it's hard! So do yourself a favor and tell yourself it's relatively easy! It really is a mental battle, part of you wants a smoke (The junkie side) but the other part of you wants so bad to quit(the intellectual side)...so the winner is...which ever side you feed. If you give in to the junkie you'll be back smoking in a flash, if you feed the intellectual side by reading as much as you can here and doing the program and learning how the cigarettes are killing you....the odds are going up considerably! You can do this and we are here to say we did it, and it feels so great! Spend the weekend here preparing, you will never regret it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 305 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,625 Amount Saved: $3,217.75 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 2 Mins: 41 Seconds: 4

Well, i guess i'll start off by saying, yes, i am new. i have not quit YET. My quit date is Monday Jan.07/08, unless i run out before then. I think i have been smoking for about 15 years. Daily for about 9 years. i did the tests here and my chances of quitting aren't looking too good. i don't know if i want to or not. i hate the smell on my clothes, breathe etc. i am the only one who smokes in my house (in my little office) My boyfriend doesn't smoke. he doesn't complain about it thou. I am most afraid of weight gain. Very afraid to be exact. Yes, i have "food issues" too. I am looking forward to the challenge, i love to challenge myself. Although, when i fail, i beat myself up quite good. So, hoping that i will do well and get the strength and courage i need to do this. I need support i know that, i have been clean and sober for 7 years and couldn't have done it without support, although i was sure i would fail at that, and yet, look at me now. Congratulations to all the people who have quit and stayed quit! You will be hearing from me soon. :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2008 Smoke-Free Days: -2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -30 Amount Saved: $-11.40 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -8835
