Maybe I'm thinking that I may possibly have a panic attack. My counselor told me that when you have a panic attack during a situation that it can imprint in your subconcious and that same situation may induce another panic attack. That's what happened to me in the beginning of November. I had a panic attack during an aerobics session. I was doing a tape at home . That's how it all started. The next day, the same thing happened. Could of been the combo of caffeine and Lexapro plus the adrenalin rush from the exercise. I've always exercised , that's why it bums me out. theem9

theem9, While walking, are you aware of anything inparticular that you may be thinking? Della

Della, none of those.I try to go for walks and it seems that if my heart rate starts elevating, I induce a panic attack. theem9

Hi, Are you in an Aerobics class? Are you trying to exercise to music? Are you trying to keep up with others around you? Is the pace faster than you? Do you feel like you're trying to keep up? Any one of these can cause Anxiety/Panic. Della

Does anyone have any feedback on dealing with panic attacks during aerobic exercise. I can't seem to get over this hump. Does anyone have any experience with this? theem9

Outlaw those tests can pick up rythem problems and are very accurate expecially in combination with eachother as long as the rythm problems occur during that period of the tests, but from what I am told if you really want to set your mind at ease speak with your doctor about a loop or event monitor. This is different from a holter monitor in that it is worn for 1 or 2 weeks where holter is only worn for a period of 24 hours. With the event monitor you are able to push a button when you feel you are having skipped beats or rythm problems and it records your heart beat. Cardiac catheterization is considered the "gold seal" for heart blockages but is not something you would really want to do unless it was absolutely necessary.

Outlaw, Your doctor did the proper tests and they have come back negative. Heart 'palpations' are a common symptom of anxiety. you need to find a way to overcome and understand this fear. We are here to support you so post often and keep your doctor informed about your symptoms of anxiety to get the optimum treatment regimen to help you overcome your anxiety/panic. Have you done the panic test? You can even print a copy off and bring it to your doctor. Hope this helps, Angela, _____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Outlaw - I totally understand how you are feeling. I've had all the tests. I even managed to freak out the tread mill stress test to the point that they had me sit down - had a nurse watch me and then sent me to the nearest cardiac hospital for a cardiac catheterization!!! It was normal. It's amazing what the muscles can do to the rest of your organs. I still see my doctor about once every couple of months (just went this week) for reassurance, but I'm still feeling like it's more physical - like a faulty brachial artery or SOMETHING! My chest muscles will get very sore and it runs down my arms - tingling like electrical stimulation - worse when laying down. The best I can do is keep occupied. I'll think I've got it licked and not thinking about it and then something else will trigger it. I have learned though that if you stick with it - it will go away at some point. I'm just concerned as I get older that if I every DO have heart symptoms, I'll fluff them off as just being my panic/anxiety disorder. Some days I feel like a hypocondriac and all I really want is for my life to be normal and do all the activities I love to do (which I try to do anyway, but with less joy then I used to).... Keep writing. It helps.

Hi all, I have the same fear of exercise and I now do not exercise at all for the exact same reasons you all have said (fear of heart attack and no one there to help). I used to go to the gym 4 days a week and work out pretty intensively. Anxiety and stress have caused me to lose about 20 lbs over the past year and a half, so I am thin and I seem to stay that way now, even without exercising. I really want to get back into exercising for my health and stress relief though, as I know it is about the most important thing you can do for yourself, health-wise. Yesterday, at the mall, I had completely unprovoked (no anxiety ) heart palpitations, I thought "oh no, this is it" but of course it went away, as it always does and I was fine. Like you Pete, I know I will die one day, and I would hate to just sit around in fear and wait for it to happen. I am 27, have no family history of heart probs, don't smoke, am not overweight, eat healthy, thus am at very low risk for heart disease. Anyways, I hope you all have a great xmas and forget about your problems for awhile ( easier said than done, don't I know it) Sarah
