Lady, I keep comparing losing weight to losing addiction, but it's so, so similar. Each of us has to find the route that we feel most comfortable with, that is true. However, if you do nothing, you will achieve nothing. So give it a shot! It's only $10, I don't think you have to sign a contract or anything. There will be lots of camaraderie if you go to the meetings. I know you would like something that would work quickly, but that just doesn't exist. Face your fears, Lady, and just do it! I'm still up and down in my decision of whether or not to join. I will probably give it a shot. It never hurts to try. I didn't think I could quit smoking but I did. Perhaps I can lose weight the same way. My doctor says that I need to make life style changes that I can live with. Sounds like quitting doesn't it? I have several friends who use WW and several who use Curves and another from this site who uses LA Weight Loss. I have used a variety of different plans myself. Just like quitting smoking: it only works if you work it. I'm on an "eating plan" which is based on Mediterranean eating: lean protein, vegetables, and whole grains, and only healthy fats, like olive oil, nuts and avocados. No white bread, no white flour, no sugar, no processed foods. That means, no hot dogs, no pizzas, no ready-to-cook boxed stuff. It's based on healthier eating. And it requires planning ahead, but it really is just a lifestyle change, like others said. When I really, really work it, it works. I have a little spiral book where I write down everything that goes into my mouth and that helps a lot. I think we have to get that mindset we had when we quit smoking -- I am going to do this whatever it takes. It is so much like quitting smoking -- the fear of failure, the fear of how hard it might be, the rationalizations and junkie thinking, and the "one of these days..." mindset. Genevieve is right: size isn't the issue. What's important is your health and your state of mind. And...it takes one day at a time. What I've heard about this program is that it is about making life style changes you can live with. That is what my doctor has been telling me for the past couple of years now. Little changes you can live with. I suppose that having a "coach" would be helpful to tell me what I'm doing wrong. Actually I know what I'm doing wrong LOL. Lady, It is an excellent program. Well worth the dollars and if you stick out the 17 weeks, lifetime membership is free. You get to eat what you want, but you have to account for it. So it is very flexiable and practical and Dr reccommended. Hi Lady, Yes, I am currently attending Weight Watchers meetings weekly. I think it is a great program and so far I have lost a little over 18 pounds in 13 weeks. Fifteen pounds of this I gained after I quit smoking. So, on average, my losses have been a little over a pound per week. I did join a gym about 6 weeks ago and since that time, my losses per week have been more steady. The WW program focuses on eating healthy foods. They also encourage but don't require physical activity. I think it is one of the best programs around and I like the way that focus on changing to living a healthy lifestyle and NOT dieting. I still have quite a bit to lose, Lady, and I am approaching this challenge in the same manner that I quit smoking......One day at a time. If I have a not so good day, I get right back on the wagon the next day. At a recent ww meeting, the leader talked about doing "whatever it takes to achieve the goal of being healthy", and I look at it as a lifelong, lifestyle change and committment. Has anyone tried weight watchers? It's been over 2 years now. I've got to lose some weight. I seem to be gaining more lately. I don't think I'm eating more. Work has a new program utilizing Weight Watchers. Everything is done on Fridays during lunch time. Speaker, coach etc. A weekly payment of $10 a week for anyone who wants to join but you are committed to 17 weeks if you sign up. I wanted to know what the rest of you think.
