Hello everyone....well, I've needed to start over with my quitting saga. I was doing "acceptable" when I came out one morning last week to find my car had been taken (repossessed to be exact). Well, needless to say, I went "tilt" and all hell broke loose. I have been able to get my car back, settle everything down and start on my non-smoking journey again. I am on day two. BACK THROUGH HELL WEEK. I have noticed that it is more difficult this go round than last time, but I cannot figure out why. I would think it would be the same if not easier, but obviously not. One day at a time. Idyexec, Learn from your slip and record what triggered it and how you think you can cope if you find yourself in this situation again. Get back on the band wagon and stick to N.O.P.E. it has helped a lot of people so far. Also, if you are using an NRT you are best to use it as suggested unless you are having an adverse reaction to it. Talk to your pharmacist to find out which one is best for you. Ldyexec - I used to pick fights with my husband so that I would have an excuse to smoke ... lol. Poor man! Anyway, I think when your mum and your husband say "it's all in your head", they are right. In that you CAN control how you perceive your quit. It can be the hardest thing you have ever done, you are "missing out", you are "losing" something, you no longer have any joy in life (that's attitude 1) OR it can be truly magical, you are gaining control, you are a winner with the ability to truly do anything you set your mind to, you are saving money, you are saving time, you are getting healthier, you smell nicer, you look nicer, you are reaching a state of peaceful acceptance of life as a non-smoker (that's attitude 2). Either way, you can stay quit - just one attitude is much more pleasant than the other! The slip is only a problem if you didn't learn from it. Next time you see your neighbours, can you think of it in a different way? They are not as free as you are, they probably envy you that. PS. I don't understand how people can smoke just sometimes either. For me, it's not an option and I have accepted that is just the way things are. ldyexec, a slip is just a slip. It's happened to lots of us. The important thing is to get right back on & to learn from the slip, so it doesn't happen again. You are doing both, so stop beating yourself up, right now. I also tried this quit cold turkey and only lasted a few days. I immediately got back on, only with the patch and it was the best thing I ever did. The very first morning, I put that very first patch on, I became 347% a non-smoker, committted to N.O.P.E under any circimstances. I followed the program to the letter and really used the time on the patch to develop strategies for triggers, to think about my smoking patterns, and to look forward. Because I knew I was knocking triggers down even though I was still getting nicotine, I was really confident that I would be able to stay quit without the patch. I looked forward to my step-downs and saw them as a chance to test and refine my strategies. I never made worries by being afraid of what "might happen". I never had any significant cravings at step-downs or after I was off the patch. The first couple of days, I had a few more thoughts & they were a little more intense. I was ready for them, I was actually glad to have them because it gave me chance to prove I could go nekkid. Every time I beat one, I congratulated myself and gave myself a little reward every day. We had a nine-page nekkid party on my first day nicotine-free! I'm not saying this will be your experience, but I can say it helps a lot to stay on the entire program and to use the time on NRT to prepare really well for being off it. Also, this is your quit. Not your mother's nor your husband's. Your mother quit before they started jacking up the nicotine with chemicals to keep us addicted, & I bet your husband can't really take it or leave it as easily as he might want to believe. YOU are doing this hard thing for YOUR own reasons, and you have to do it in the best way for you. We're here for yuo & we know you can do it.
