Thanks for everyone's support. I have not taken even one puff. N.O.P.E. - my wife last night and this morning when out of the bedroom to light her smoke. I did not say anything to her about it, she did this on her own. If I had said something, as a smoker, she would have defended her right to light up where she pleases. Which I would have done too. Smokers are that way, because we feel quilty for smoking. But, for some reason, all on her own, when she woke up in the middle of night and in the morning, she went out of the bedroom to light her smoke. so,all I did was say thanks for doing that and said I appreciate her noticing things like that. So, hopefully from now on, she will keep doing that, and maybe even get rid of that bathroom ashtray. If she does even those two things it will help me a lot. It is 20 days now, and this site with everyone has really helped me stay smoke free, and I want to continue that, hopefully the hard days are behind me now. Guess I'm kind of puzzled why spouses would want to hamper the growth of the one they "love"? I don't get it. I'm not saying they have to be ready to quit....but where is the respect? Is something missing here....or is it just me? My husband and I quit together. It started out that he was supporting me because I couldn't breathe easily anymore. I'd cough to the point of blacking out. I coughed all night long. He would cheat and it would plainly infuriate me. Then he discovered uncontrolled diabetes and circulation problems, so he quit absolutely. Keep hanging in there someday the smoker might well be looking at the non-smoker for support. Sparkwins, I cannot believe how strong you are. You are through the worst two weeks and you have done that living with a smoker who smokes around you! Don't stop now - you must be a very strong-willed individual and you should take full advantage of that deep pit of willpower you possess. I could never have stopped smoking unless my partner did too. I had always thought I would stop "one day" but that date kept moving back and back as I got older. Then my husband needed a heart bypass operation (he smoked)and I spent the week after his operation visiting with him in hospital. Out of the 15 people on the ward, 14 were smokers or ex-smokers. At the ripe old age of 41, here's what I FINALLY realised ... smoking is really, really, really, really bad for your heart! The ads on tv don't sink in, the warnings don't make you feel guilty enough to stop but seeing 14 people with "zips" in their chests really put a chill down my spine. Neither of us has smoked since and I know I will never smoke again. Believe me, after 25 years of smoking, there have been "moments" and I'm not saying it's easy, but it is definitely worth it. And, you know, it gets easier. I wouldn't be giving your wife any ultimatums, your emotions will be all over the place at the moment and it will all end in tears. Just HANG IN THERE for your own quit! It gets so much better with each day. Your wife may take inspiration from you in the future, or she may not - that is her life, her choice. Don't pressure her to quit but if she does choose to do so, then be supportive of her. In the meantime, reward yourself for your hard work (give yourself lots of rewards, your brain needs them), ask her to smoke away from you if she can and stay strong. I am going to reward myself right now with a nice glass of wine! (um, it's just after 5.00pm Friday here, in case anyone thinks I'm hauling back booze in the morning ... lol). Thanks One More...it has been some time now, but I can remember it just like it was yesterday. No, she actually died of Lupus (which I also have), but what got her was her lungs got infected and she had heart problems. Did the smoking kill her....at times, I believe so. I know it sure didnt help. Not to mention what it does to your immune system, your blood count, etc... It has helped me to stay committed to my quit this time...my doctor just told me I have plurisy (sp)...I can do this!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 210 Amount Saved: $39.38 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 20 Seconds: 50

I truly admire someone who is able to maintain a quit with a smoker in the house. That's more strength than I have. Hang tough, you are a hero. Wow, I am so sorry about your mother rnd34. I'm assuming she died of a smoking related illness. It puts things into a different perspective. Thank you for sharing.
