Remember Apollo 13? It was crippled in outer space and the astronauts, had to endure incredible hardships to return safely to earth. Their motto: "Failure is not an Option". Jaden, It's hard in the beginning and the words of encouragement that I can give to you is that you are not alone. So many have gone before you and have been where you are, and they make it through somehow with the strength of a whole SSC community behind them. No matter how bad you feel or how hard you are craving, just remember, You Are Not ALONE! Hey you guys! Congratulations on quitting! What a wonderful gift you're giving yourselves and your loved ones. lol..I know you don't really want to hear that right now. But it is true. Sounds like you folks could start your own mini-support group. Maybe call yourselves the Cranky, but Cool Never Caving Quitters? You know, the CCNQs for short? You could have daily contests on What you wanted to say, but didn't, or The most creatively phrased put down, or The Worst offense committed by a loved one. Anything to keep yourselves amused and distracted. I think MomE is on to something there, with the crankiness related to craves. Would be an interesting experiement. Hopefully you all have had a chance to read that thread by Lady Cigevictor, "Ask for Help, Put it in Writing." A nice little model for asking your loved ones for understanding. I think it was Rusty who had a humorous letter in there too. Just remember, these feelings will pass, and at the other side of this crankiness is such a feeling of accomplsihsment and relief to be free of this addiction. You're all doing fine, and I am so happy you're posting rather than caving. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the results of those contests, if you decide to hold them. I'll even volunteer to be on the panel of judges if you want ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 222 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,880 Amount Saved: $1,509.60 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 0 Mins: 20 Seconds: 27

Just like the cravings you have to fight the mood swings. I have made it through hell and heck week by fighting the cravings and the swings. You need to find someone that will let you just vent. And breath through the feelings. Also notice that we you are in the mood swing it is usually around the time that you are fighting a craving. Deal with the craving and usually the mood swing will go away. Talking and breathing helped me through those tough days. If people really care about you they will understand and stand by you no matter what. Good luck and keep posting. Jaden: I am right there with One more try and goofy when it comes to being new at this. I have tried to quit on and off for a total of three years, but got real serious when I found this amazing website. My quit date, Oct 15, lasted 6 days, resumed smoking, and now I am attempting it again. Can I just vent here and say I am ready to rip someone's head off. Everything that could possibly get under my skin - IS! I have been on this site all day just reading what everyone is writing, trying to stay cool. I want to cave, but I don't want to smoke. I know that it will not make me feel better, but I really need for this feeling to go away. I, too, have been so irritable with my boyfriend. He knows about this process, he is all too familiar with my mood swings related to quitting, but it still does not make it easier on either of us. Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone! Jaden, I hear you! I too have become very irritable with everybody. Especially co-workers and also clients! This is one place where we need to keep our cool, at work. So, go for a walk and take a break if you have to. Hang in there, it will get better (or so everyone says...I'm not sure, I'm new at this too!) Like you, I have also tried to quit in the past and failed every time. Let's make this quit work! Know that you are not alone. Goofy and I are both going through everything you are. Listen to the wise ones on this site (you guys know who you are, with the big numbers!) and good luck! Oh, and about your boyfriend, ask him to understand. I have asked my husband to understand that this is very difficult and I may be a little cranky for the next little while. So far so good, but we're only on day two! Jaden, You are okay and you are going to get through this. Go ahead and send out a quick apology for any mood swings you may force on others through the rest of the week, and thank them in advance for caring enough about you to support you while you kick the stuffing out of this addiction. You are going to get through this, as long as you want to quit more than you want to smoke. (Not my words, but they are some pretty good ones!!!) rnd My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 180 Amount Saved: $33.75 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 0 Seconds: 58

OK Jaden, I don't know how much I can help, I'm only on my second day. One more try might be able to relate a little better than I can. I've never been an emotional person, so the feelings that stem from not smoking, are new to me. Irritability is definitely the emotion that needs to be held in check. I've informed everyone I deal with that my last smoke was Sunday night, and expect the worst from me for a few days. We're all going to go through this together. Hey people, on quit #3 in under a year. November 20th would have been my anniversary with the Nicodemon:-( I fell off after 8 months, quit again for a week and then back on. I am hoping 3 is a charm. Today is my first day and boy is it going crappy (place words of encouragement here) I already want to choke the life out of my co-workers and have sent a really nasty email to my BF about his dirty clothes laying around the house... I am on a role. Besides the disaster of my day (and it's only lunch time) I always find solace in this place and all of your words. Please, I desperately need some help before I am jobless, Boyfriendless and smoking!!!
