Mike, I feel your pain, I'm on day 28 and although I love being smoke free, I hate the cravings and the "wantings" of a cig that pop up every once inwhile. Just last night, going over the budget with the hubby about put me in the funny farm and all I could think of was a cig. It's funny how things will just set us off. We just need to take it one day, one crave at a time, working ourselves towards thinking about the cigs less and less as time goes on. Good for you for walking it off. I took my Dog for a walk around our back field tonight and I loved the smell of the fall air!! Mike, I had the very same issues and more, but it was all short term, very temporary and better than smoking. 30 days seems to be a trigger for alot of us I think. I upped my exercise and that helped me alot too. Maybe you need a big reward! hang tough Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 173 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,730 Amount Saved: $302.75 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 11 Mins: 36 Seconds: 53

Hang in there Mike! No, it isn't easy or fun sometimes but it is SO worth it and you will be glad that you saw it through. You've got the right idea - pull out ALL those coping techniques if you have to. Change something in your routine, do something you've been putting off around the house or plan something fun for after work. If those don't help...rent a movie or just go to bed. You'll still wake up a non-smoker and bad days don't go on forever. (Although sometimes they feel that way :)) All the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1174 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,480 Amount Saved: $5,283.00 Life Gained: Days: 89 Hrs: 15 Mins: 32 Seconds: 55

thanks Aloha et. al., I'll keep a look-out for those other threads I guess it's not helping much that it's a very very stressful day at work, but I was able to swallow my pride (and cravings) earlier and not quit in some dramatic fashion I think I'll go for a stroll around the neighborhood...will be back soon My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 850 Amount Saved: $276.25 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 46 Seconds: 34

Mike I went through the same thing when I stopped taking chantix. It did go away..after I got myself a quick reward. In this case fudgsicles, creamsicles, and sorbet. Also, you've just passed the 30 day mark. Congratulations, by the way! Often around these kinds of milestones cravings increase. We're used to rewarding ourselves with cigarettes. That's why rewards are important. They increase the "feel good" neurotransmitters. I'm going to bump up a thread for you if I can find it about this subject. Chantix impacts these same neurotransmitter pathways indirectly. Also I'll bump up a thread about weaning off chantix. It's good you're consulting your doctor, but sometimes I think the drug is so new that they don't know all that much about it. I've seen some people who were troubled by nightmares and sleep disturbances say they either took the night time dosage earlier and/or halfed that dose. Bottom line is, these cravings will pass, and by taking an active part in managing them, you can get through them. Just keep remembering, smoking will not get rid of the craves, it will only relieve them for 20 minutes or so. Then you will crave another one. And another. Breathe deeply, drink plenty of water, and reward yourself. SHHMike, Remember this is temporary. Your body will adjust. Have you tried physical activity to help manage the anxiety? Relaxation techniques? Distractions? Rewards? Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Ag! On Chantix here and have been experiencing rather nasty side effects - the worst is that I can't get a good night's sleep - I wake up in the morning with severe anxiety pains. But I kept up my regular dosage. I went to the doctor once I had been smoke free for a month, and he recommended not taking the evening pill. Well I stopped the evening dose 4 days ago and the past 4 nights of sleep have been great and very restful. I knew the cravings would increase as the larger doses of chantix left my system, but MY OH MY do I want a cigarette right now! I feel like it's the first day all over again - and it's taken this long to catch up! I'm keeping my usual coping techniques close by, but these cravings are coming fast and furious. I really don't want to go back to anxiety and nightmare filled nights, but I'm not sure what to do at this point. Help!
