Hey guys and gals! Actually, I woke up, waited about 1/2 hour and then had a smoke. Next one was two hours later and tasted nasty. I guess i never really had a chance to taste them before since I was sucking down so many. I'm sure my taste buds and nose were so fried that it couldn't taste them anymore anyways! Oh yeah...I'm also a menthol smoker. Not sure if that makes a diff. I'm hearing alot of chat about the carr book. Can anyone tell me exactly where it's at so i can check it out? Is it on this site somewhere...or elsewhere? Thanks so much everyone!

Danno, let me be honest with you, & i am being totally serious now. Think about this... it is not that you enjoy the cigarette but the actual relief from nicotine withdrawal from the cigarette you had. I bet the longest you could go without a cigarette was 45 minutes ! & be honest with yourself. The fact is it only takes 30 minutes for nicotine from the previous cigarette to leave the body hence the need for more Nicotine .. stick around & read up as much as you can & go read that book ! Danno, They all taste rotten if you stop and think about it. Smoke coating you inside and out. Yuck! I loved your story. I never smoked as much as you have but I smoked for a long time. It was easy for me to quit because I have emphysema now. One pack a day smoker for about 30 years, that's all. LOL! Just keep visiting the site and reading all you can. There are some very inspirational stories out here. Best of Luck! It can be done because the people here have done it! Danno, That book and this site have made quitting a real pleasure. Quitting is as hard as you think it's going to be, if you think it's impossible it probably will be, if you think it might be kind of fun to set yourself a challenge and see it through then quitting becomes much easier. Today I am 3 weeks into my cold turkey quit, just got up and am having my coffee with absolutely no urge to smoke, no craving for nicotine and no idea why I thought I couldn't live without it for 40 years. Good luck on this and stay very close to this group. We know what you're going through and want to see you smoke free. It really works to just say N.O.P.E My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/17/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 504 Amount Saved: $88.20 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 19 Mins: 34 Seconds: 7

Welcome, Danno I don't think I can add anything to what penitent and nonic have said about the inner workings of quitting. The process you are in now gives you the opportunity to look at the times, triggers, and reasons you light up. I think many, if not most of us, don't figure out those things until we have actually stopped smoking. I agree with the guys, long term success comes from the true desire to be free of this addiction. The tricks and tips that will help you achieve that goal are abundant, and as Bimo has pointed out, we each need to find our own particular combination. So, when you're ready, let us know, and I am sure the support and suggestions will come rolling in. I smoked for 36 years and was up to at least 2 packs a day, and since my quit date haven't had a single puff. I used chantix and this site...my winning combination :) Welcome aboard -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 169 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,760 Amount Saved: $1,149.20 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 13 Mins: 51 Seconds: 8

Hi Dan Welcome to the site. I have found it invaluable in my quit. I went for 'cold turkey' option because I thought that would be best for me and I wanted to just get that nicotine out of my system but everyone is different and you must just see how you are feeling. Your story is amazing but you come across as strong and I am sure you will succeed in beating this addiction. Keep reading and posting on here and you will get all the support you need.
