I won't lie...I'm struggling!

Jan, it happens, the important thing is to keep quitting. Just don't smoke, be ready for the next trigger, have your weapons ready. for me they were water with those crystal light thinggies, listerine strips, beating up on innocent co-workers, etc.... ;p We are all in this with you, and we have been there, just hang on tight and keep leaning, some one will be there to answer you. Next time you have a crave holler loud right here and wait for 10 replies before you do anything. hang tough. Sue (Lady - wow, awesome post :) ) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 970 Amount Saved: $169.75 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 6 Mins: 56 Seconds: 57

Jan Don't feel bad about writing this down. I am glad that you are doing it, it means that you are trying. Believe me you are writing to the choir here, we all know the struggle. We also know that any successes we have are fragile and need to be built upon. And that is what you will do now. This process is much more than the cessation of an action (smoking). It is about finding the key inside of ourselves that allows us to first understand why we smoke and then to realize that we have the power to address our issues. The result of this is the application of internal controls that enable us to for go our impulse to smoke for the much more positive impulse of survival. In order to do this, we must nail down the why, where and hows of our addiction. There are many times on many days that those old thoughts of smoking come knocking at my door. But I now see them as warning bells that let me know there is some issue or other inside of me that must be dealt with. It might be something as simple as I am tired, I must rest...or as complex as feelings of inadequacy and lonliness...I much prefer the former (tired is easier to deal with)... I believe that you can do this, I believe that you want to do this and I believe that eventually you will do this...Now try to center on what is keeping you smoking. You know from your experience that this battle is won on an hour by hour, day by day, and week by week basis. So start small and analyze why you want the next cigarette. What is driving you to it, and how can you change your internal environment so that you take that need away. I know its not easy, but you are perfectly able to make this happen for yourself and I would love to see you do it... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 226 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,780 Amount Saved: $1,582.00 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 8 Mins: 33 Seconds: 51

Hi Jan, You've received some awesome advice and support here, we do understand what you're going through. Focus in on your coping skills. Write down exactly what you plan to do when you feel the urge to smoke. That way when the cravings hit, you won't have to think about what to do. This helped me a lot in my early quit. Keep adding to the list, just don't smoke. Post on the board, do whatever it takes. Remember Not One Puff Ever, NOPE...simple but not easy, good luck and keep smiling, even when you don't feel like it, just smile. :) And when you do well, reward yourself, it's important to feel good about your quit! Take care and stay close, Jennifer :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/27/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1838 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 55,140 Amount Saved: $7,811.50 Life Gained: Days: 208 Hrs: 19 Mins: 47 Seconds: 16

Hi Jan, I think you need to sit back and regroup and stop beating yourself up. This addiction is not an easy one to overcome but I know you can do this. We are always here for you and believe me it isn't always as easy as for others as it may seem. You say it is hard to post when you have nothing positive to post what you can do in those times is come here congratulate others on their milestones. Remember when we give advice praise we are also giving ourself help. Just a thought anyway. I know you will be back but please stay close and let us know what is going on. I reach out my hand to you :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 140 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $910.00 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 20 Mins: 22 Seconds: 39

There's nothing I want more than to be smoke free. I keep trying, and believe me, I'll NEVER give up. Hi Jan, You're worth living a long healthy life, smellin good, feelin good & lookin fresh :) U are worth it :) I want to be smoke-free too but when I slipped a couple days ago I wanted to smoke more than I wanted to be smoke-free. But over-all I do want to be smoke-free again b/c I remember how gr8 I felt before! Anyhow, what I'm saying is that right now you want to smoke more than you want to be smoke-free. That's your choice and it's ok :) Right now you're not feeling so gr8 about yourself and that will only re-inforce your wanting to smoke but u already know that :) Jan, your honesty is what will get you smoke-free. #1 honesty to yourself and #2 making it public helps to get it out of you so that you can move on :) I believe that you really want to be smoke-free & and everyone else believes in you but the key is do u believe in yourself. Congrats for getting up the nerve to spill your guts to all of us. But don't feel bad about where you are! It's ok :) Nobody in here is any better than you. We are all struggling with something in this world. Be proud of yourself b/c I know exactly how you feel and how hard it was for you to post this. That was a big step for you. Now just start with the baby steps. One thing at a time, one day at a time, one moment at a time. Pick YOUR quit date :) U can do it, just pick a date and don't set yourself up to fail. Go at your own pace & remember u are exactly where you're suppose to be today just like the rest of us. And you're the zillionth lol person to be struggling to be smoke-free, but you know in your heart what you want, and you also know that you can do it. So give yourself some credit b/c many don't even get this far and go with your desire to quit. Listen to that smart part of you that is saying, I know I can quit and I'm going to. Will be looking for your new quit date :) Just breathe........ I fully believe that when your desire to quit is greater than your desire to smoke, you will have the best results! Not every day is gum drops and lollipops but if there is a will, there is a way. Hope this helps! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 212 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,180 Amount Saved: $890.40 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 16 Mins: 19 Seconds: 40

Jan I know how you feel. Been there, done that....writing the book in fact. This is not the end of the world. Don't beat yourself up. I agree with Lady. You need to sit down and look at this carefully. Work with the tools, get some tools, find out your triggers, develop a system of rewards, have a plan for difficult times, make a commitment. You have already shown you have to courage to start a quit. How will you stay determined? What do you need to say to yourself, so that you will stay committed to this? Get things all lined up for next time. You can do this. I know you can. You forgot the golden rule.....POST BEFORE YOU SMOKE! If you can't post then you need to e-mail and Jan, you need to get the IM working-these are important tools!!!!! I'm rooting for you.
