    Cigarettes Not Smoked

17 years ago 0 12 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
freebird, i had to laugh when i read about you 'cleaning out the garage"!! i can so relate to that! my first 2 days off ciggies i got so much done, i had no 'excuse' to take a break, in fact i was scared to. i've been trying to spend all my time focusing on the benefits of not smoking,to re-enforce it in my brain, but when i actually have a craving, i've been doing something physical- a walk, a shower(can't smoke in there!). i also picture all the cigarettes i havn't smoked piled up on the table -yuk. my other focus is that this may be my only chance at quitting, so i've kind of scared myself into not having one. I use self talk. A favorite mantra is "peaceful and free". It reminds me to not get anxious about not having cigs and to be so thankful that I am on my way to freedom from this addiction; as long as i do not smoke. I work at a high school, and a non smoker teacher, was talking to his students and said "As far as I can tell, the nicoteen is like a gremlin in your head, when you smoke he's all placid and lying down quietly, but when he's having withdrawls he's starting to get agitated and gets to the stage of jumping up and down screaming." For some reason that picture has stuck in my head and whenever I get a craving that picture comes to the forfront and I can only start giggling and it chases my cravings away. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Each time I had a crave I researched why we have them...Reading over and over about how our minds work, the nicotine withdrawl process, and the positive effects that were going on in my body sailed me through a crave. Remember, with each crave they get easier and less intense. Or maybe we just get stronger. Who knows - Which came first? The chicken or the egg? Phil or Tuesdays?
