These are wonderful posts, Rusty. A handbook for success. I wish they could be frozen at the top of the forum to help all quitters in the future. Any chance mods? Wow, look at you! You're on your third day! Aren't you so proud? Can you just feel the fresh air filling up your lungs? Are you starting to be able to smell a little bit better? And smell better? LOL It's time for a reward. NOPE! Not a smoke!!! Don't go there! That's the stinkin' thinkin'! Lunch or dinner out? A movie? A walk in a peaceful place? You deserve a reward! Today, you have an inkling of the strength inside you. You not only got through Day One, but now you've done Day Two. You know now beyond the shadow of any doubt that you can be a non-smoker. You CAN! One day at a time, you can do this. You ARE doing this! But the hard work isn't over. You are still healing; your body is still recovering. The junkie side is still whispering in your ear. So you keep on doing what you did yesterday and the day before. One day at a time. One hour at a time. And even one minute at a time. Drink lots of water and juice. Don't forget to eat. You know the drill. (If you don't, go back and read Day One and Day Two.) If the cravings get really hard, go for a walk. Take a hot shower. Take a bubbly bath. Take deep breaths. Take a nap! You might be feeling very tired. Or, you might be feeling very hyper. Either way, it's the chemicals leaving your system. You might be coughing up gunk. Some do, some don't. Pretty much whatever you're feeling on Day Three is the healing. (If it seems severe though, get some medical help). Are you feeling snappish? That's the junkie, too. Practice your apologizing skills. Maybe stay away from people if you can. Come here instead. At the same time, work on your attitude. This isn't a jail sentence. This is THE most important work you can be doing right now. Be proud! Most important. You might be tempted to smoke a cigarette to ease your cravings. Don't. That will just put you back into Day One. You don't want to do that again, do you? As they say on another site, don't debate with yourself about how much you want a cigarette. Ask yourself how you feel about going back to your old level of consumption. Remember -- to quit smoking, all you have to do is never light another one. It's a simple concept. You are strong and smart. You can do this...I know you can! Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/1
