A little surprising update: I have seen my doctor, and also a cardiologist in the past week. My BP is still above 200, and the meds I am taking have now been quadrupled, plus another med has been added. Now I have to get a lot of tests, etc. I told both docs that I really expected my BP to go down after quitting smoking, yet they said my situation wasn't unusual. They said smoking can cause blood vessels to dilate, and I was self-medicating the condition by smoking. Just wanted to pass this along...remember to have your BP checked often! Well, I didn't get a dr. appt today, because she is taking a long holiday weekend. She'll see me Tuesday. She called in a new Rx, but it wasn't on my plan so they wouldn't fill it. Therefore, I am no better off (or worse off) than before. Nurse made me promise to call a cardiologist tomorrow. She is unhappy with the response of my primary doc. The mild itch has passed as I knew it would. Onward and upward!!! Thanks all! You guys are the best!!! :) :) :) Nance My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 99 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,970 Amount Saved: $480.15 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 22 Mins: 3 Seconds: 24

Mom, Congradulations on your stats. Wow..the BEACH!! THAT SHOULD LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE!!! I am glad you are checking it out. My blood pressure fluctuated after quiting. I have pretty close to normal blood pressure...but it has been mildly high lately. I think that is due to stress. Lets be honest......quiting is stressful!! We have lost an outlet (even if it was an unhealthy outlet)...but we lost it just he same. Just like death of loved ones....moving....divorce...job changes and other things are listed very high on the list of stress factors.... i think quiting smoking should be one. Let us know how you make out. Can chantix cause blood pressure changes? Nance - Hope you are feeling better soon. Good luck with at the docs and remember - smoking would just make things worse! (But you know that - I don't have to tell you!) Nice job on those 99 days! Get ready to relax on the beach (maybe it'll help lower the bp?) Nance, Wait to hear what the doctor has to say :) Smoking does have a habit of masking issues, so take the time to check with them :) Josie

Hi Nance My blood pressure has increase some. I have always had very low blood pressures (they used to have to test 2-3 times to make sure they were right). Now after quitting it has been closer to normal (120/70) but highter then my norm. If you can call me normal, the only time mine was ever high enough to worry about was when i gave birth to my oldest son who is now 18. Really hope you feel better and get this under control. My prayers are with you. Nance, Look forward to day 100 at the Beach! This 'I know I won't smoke but have thought about it' will soon change to 'I know I won't smoke because I don't want to' all the best :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 465 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,950 Amount Saved: 3,487.50 Life Gained: Days: 74 Hrs: 17 Mins: 47 Seconds: 30

Yesterday was interesting! The company sent me to an out of state health fair, and while there I got a free blood pressure check. I expected a good result since my quit, as previously my pressure has been just a tad high (140/90). My doctor is ready to put me on meds, but wanted to wait until after my quit is established and the chantix is done to see if it dropped. Well, yesterday the result was a ride to the hospital since my pressure was 200+/100+. No headache, no palpatations, no symptoms at all. They were able to get it down to 188 (with meds)and let me drive the 2 hours to get home, and my daughter (Nurse29) was here to take it again and it was even a bit lower. I am seeing my doctor today for a bp check. I am maybe a bit overly concerned since my mother passed away at age 56 from an aneurysm. I am pretty good with seeing my doctor several times a year and I keep a pretty close eye on any problems. This was not really one of my concerns. Has anyone else experienced a dramatic increase in blood pressure since your quit? I am also experiencing my worst crave since hell week...I'm sure its because of this added stress or maybe the 100 day hole. I won't smoke, but I sure have thought about it. This too shall pass.
