Quitting in July

16 years ago 0 12 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks, both of you. :-) I was born and raised in Michigan. My family and I moved to Arizona in the middle of my fourth grade year, where we lived in four different cities until the end of my seventh grade year. At the time, I was also a Boyscout and we hiked the Superstition Mountains and the Grand Canyon. I've always had a love for the outdoors. My eighth grade year, I lived in Arkansas, during the first Gulf War, when Bill Clinton was Governor! I was also in band and I played the Tuba. After that year, we moved back to Michigan where I spent my high school years. I've moved around a lot in my life. Even after high school, I lived a lot of different places in Michigan. I now live in Kentucky. I moved here about two years ago. I've been exploring as much of the state as I can because next year I am planning another move. I either want to move to North Carolina, where I can spend a year or two exploring the Smoky Mountains, or I msy just travel around in my Jeep for a few years, staying at state and national campgrounds, exploring different places and working from my laptop wherever I'm at. If I can quit smoking, I think it will help me to reclaim some of my youthful adventurousness and especially my self-confidence. I believe smoking is an underlying symptom of playing the role of a martyr, at least for me, and if I can reclaim my independence over my own life, I think anything is possible! When all is said and done, I'll either relocate to Hawaii or Toronto. Those are the two places that have always called to me. -rswfire My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -375 Amount Saved: $-75.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -141070

I've always thought about living in Hawaii. I researched it thoroughly. Very expensive rent, lol. Hi, Aloha. I will be keeping a daily log of my trip, and as you can see from my blog, I take hundreds of pictures of the places I visit. :-) I may make a completely new website before I go. I have some ideas on how to make a better resource for my adventures; hopefully I will have time to do so before I go. -rswfire My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -375 Amount Saved: $-75.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -141898

I understand this, rswfire sounds like a rewarding journey. I'm gonna look up that trace. I just drove up much of the Natchez trace beginning of May. So beautiful. Wish I'd had time to do some hiking. Also going to check out zero's journal. Rusty I quit with a smoker in the house too. I've figured all along it really has nothing to do with my quit, but I do wish he would quit too for his own well-being. Hi, Rusty! I remember you too. :-) This guy quit smoking while hiking the Appalachian Trail His trail name is zero because he takes a lot of "zero days" -- meaning he camps out and doesn't hike at all, so his progress is slow, and his journal is pretty boring. But... He quit smoking when he started the trip, and this was back in January, and it's now June, and he has hiked a total of 1100 miles since his last entry. Six months to hike only 1100 miles...he's moving slow, lol. I'll be hiking 300 miles in two weeks, although I may be gone longer than that if I make a lot of detours and hike further to check out other areas of each of the ranger districts I'll be in. I'm really not concerned at all about the hiking. I'd rather be miserable on my hike than miserable at home. And no, I won't be using any NRT's. I'll be quitting CT. There is a definite advantage to this. It will be the hottest month of the year here. We've had 80-90 degree days all week already, and although it sounds gross, strenuous hiking means I'll be sweating a lot, and sweat is the body's natural way of eliminating toxins from the body. I view my trip as a spritiual cleansing process, almost a mystic journey of self-discovery, self-sacrifice, and oneness with my surroundings. I just cannot go wrong this way. I'm really looking forward to doing this! I remember you (and I remember visiting your website). I'm glad you are back. Make the quit yours...whatever feels right for you. As you know, you can learn a lot here from other people's experiences, but what's most important is that quitting smoking is what you want to do and what you are committed to doing. I'm one of those who quit with a smoker in the house. He still smokes. I don't.
