Anxiety or Panic attacks?

20 years ago 0 8 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, I just went for my cognitive therapy with my husband since there is so much going on and I find that he is giving me hope that there are choices and learning that you really can possible tackle all this but it is a learning process and one you have to do over and over again. He gave me this great book to get and as soon as I can locate it I will pass the title on. I don't know if I will be able to get of the medications as I do believe there are genetics involved but a reduction would be nice. I hate flying but did it for business and they were not short flights - I am from Canada and had to go to Vegas twice a year and Nashiville 2 a years and God knows where else..........I fought it all the time, complete panic but can't jump out of the plane but was utterly exhausted and angry that I had to keep feeling all this ****. Yes, there was a time when I could not even leave the house but I had a great doctor (and being from Canada fortunately don't have to worry about $$ or insurance!) and I feel he saved my life but also that was 12 years ago and am only now wanting to get control of this so I don't have to feel all those famous jellylegs or lightheadness which I hate! Thanks for answering me back and when I find the book which will be some time today I will list it, its a workbook...........why couldn't I have inheritated by mothers artistic side !!

I believe that PA's DO run in families! I have several relatives (all on my mothers' side of the family gene pool) that suffer from anxiety. Unfortunately for me, I seem to suffer the worst with it. And, oddly enough, as far as I know, I'm the only male that has it. There are also some other similarities in the family ( I'm not gonna mention, so everyone who reads this will panic over yet another symptom!) Bottom line, I truly believe this is a genetic condition. In fact, Columbia University in New York State is currently doing a study on the genetic aspect of anxiety. If you would like more info, e-mail me jjmosher@yahoo.com and I'll send you the e-mail addy of the person in charge. Remember though, it's just a study in progress, there aren't any Yes or No answers! You may even be able to participate in the study if you're interested. HTH!!

Hi Coco, I found some interesting information on google that may be of interesting reading to you; "There may be a genetic predisposition to anxiety disorders; some sufferers report that a family member has or had a panic disorder or some other emotional disorder such as depression. Studies with twins have confirmed the possibility of 'genetic inheritance' of the disorder." You can read more at this information site @http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/panic.html Hope this makes for informational reading. Josie

Good question....I would like to know too more about heredity and panic, social phobia and depression. It runs in my family too, and I can't tell you about medications, but I hope one of the moderators will comment on this question for all of us...

I am back on again and would love to hear from the Monitor about the medications I am taking. It seems everything is mixed up between depression, anxiety or panic but do you think I could go off these meds after being on them so long? 12 yrs? I am on 175 Doxipin or Sinniquan and 2 mg of Rivitrol a day. People wonder how I can function but I could not nothing before and right now feel as relaxed as possible but now my husband has been going through a very bad depression and ended up having ECT and am going to the doctors with him today so the focus has been taken off me but I am so exhausted by the end of the day as my anxiety leve is at its highest but with out panic attacks but its killing me !! Too much going on to put it mildly............love to hear from someone coco

I am new here and have had anxiety since I was born, I honestly do not remember when I felt completely relaxed and when I do thats when I panic as its such a foreign state. I hate it !! I am receiving cognitive therapy and am just starting on the path to hopefully learn the how toos !! I am also on medication, 175 mg a day of Doxipin or Sinniquan, and 2mg of Rivitrol 3 x a day, so you would think that this would calm me down but it doesn't , I have been on this medication for about 12 years now. (my mother takes ths same anti-depressant but a much smaller dosage) Does anyone out there have any experience in the medication dept, I would love to get off it but god only knows what would happen !! thanks Coco
