going back to work today; breaks and smokers!

16 years ago 0 598 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well, going back to work has not been a problem. It is just that "after work" cig that nags at me some days. Isn't it nice to be able to just say "NO", I am not giving up my freedom and going back to that addiction? The triggers are becoming fewer; but I still am bothered with thoughts of smoking alot during the day. It gets exhausting sometimes, but i know that it will become fewer and fewer. Who would have thought that those cigs would have such a hold on us? Here's to freedom! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 312 Amount Saved: $65.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 35 Seconds: 36

Hi Quitmyster, Well, I did not wake up crying, so that is an improvement! By the end of the day yesterday, i was better. I am having my fresh ground coffee and getting ready for the day. And you have 4 days now..that is great. I know that if we can do it one day, we can do it the next day and the next day, etc, etc. There is much to rejoice about in being smoke free. Today, I will dwell on the positive. It is good to learn to embrace how we feel instead of numbing ourselves with nicotine. If I go back to smoking, it will be a life long sentence of slavery, declining health, stinky clothes, bad breath, depleted energy, and denial. Thanks for your concern Quit. I'll see you around the boards. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 240 Amount Saved: $50.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 43 Seconds: 57

Hi New Me, Just checking in to see how the "New You" is feeling today. I had an edgy start to the day, but am feeling much better now. Have not used any NRT's today, so knew it would be a big push. Want to grind teeth, had sweats earlier, but now feel completely normal. LOL - trying to enjoy this moment. Let me and the rest of your supporters know how you're doing. Cigarettes Not Smoked

thanks danielle, I am not going to smoke; but dang, I have been crying all day. I swam some laps and then took a nice shower with my peppermint oil soap. i feel a little better now, but am still weepy. I did not know that nicotine was a mood booster. That could very well be why I am so blue. I am using a few of the 2mg lozenges everyday. I am also taking wellbutrin. I am going out to dinner with my hubby and 2 of my kids. That will be nice. Then, I will get in bed early, watch the season finale of "The Riches" and hopefully drift off to sleep. I hope I am not crying so much tommorrow. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 31 Seconds: 3

New me, Hang in there. You are still fairly new in your quit and nicotine is a known mood booster. Now that you have quit, your mood may take a temporary nose dive. It is temporary and it will pass but in the meantime, pleasurable activities is the way to go. Be kind to yourself and do anything and everything that might make you feel better. Time to reward yourself for all your hard work! Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi new me, Thanks for the kind words of support - I hope you're feeling better by now. I left work and went to work out for my lunch hour (joined a health club to make it easier for me to workout year round). Now I'm charged up and really to roll through the rest of this day. Tonight, I'll ride bikes with my sons, or take my dog for a walk. I find that keeping very active helps me to avoid depression and weight gain -- the two most difficult aspects of quitting for me. Keep up the good work - talk to you soon. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi quitmeyster, I also quit last may..it lasted about 3 months. From your meter, it seems that you smoke 5 cigs a day. I know that it is just as hard to give up your 5 as to give up my 25! The triggers are just as real. I am determined to make this my forever quit. I am tired of the yo-yo. I am just having a very blue day today. Nicotine cries out that it could make you feel better. But, that is a lie. Congrats on your 3 days free, and here's to many more. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 37 Seconds: 45

Hi new me, I am back to this site - quit in Nov. 05, then May 06, and now again. I have found that quitting on the weekend is much easier than trying to quit during the work week, especially if you have non-supportive co-workers. Some even laugh and say, "gee, I didn't know you were a quitter, not me, I'm not a quitter." Funny, if you're not in the throws of a bad craving, and ducking away from smoke. Anyway, I've learned to avoid the smokers on break - and I have learned to cut back on coffee consumption if I'm feeling nervous, anxious, and thus, emotional. This website suggests that your senses are heightened and this feeling should pass in a few days and be replaced with the gift of better senses (sight, smell, etc). For what it's worth, I have found their insight to be accurate. You will actually feel better physcially, and have the satisfaction of conquering the challenge of keeping it together while the feeling fades away. And now you know you are stronger! Cigarettes Not Smoked

thanks everyone, I do not know WHY, but I practically woke up crying today. I am off work today and tomorrow. I may take a drive in the desert and look for rocks for my patio cactus garden. I do not know why I am so blue today, but I do know that smoking will not help ANYTHING. Gosh, I hate this addiction. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 15 Seconds: 52
